After reading the AVKS 700/41 a few questions came to my mind.
At topic no.50 regarding the artillery command posts they mention an "opponent assigner", what kind of tool was that?
At topic no.52 they mention a photoelectric board on the gunnery data computer which shows target data, what kind of data and how would this screen look when turned on?
I imagine the photoelectric board is the two displays in the bottom of this computer.
Thanks for any hints on answers to these questions!
Cheers!
Hi Bracer,
Re your first question, I am guessing that “opponent assigner” is a result of a non-specialist mechanical language translation. My guess = “target designator”.
Re target data, common sense would suggest -
Target bearing.
Target heading.
Target speed.
Target range.
Second order data m I g h t include range and deflection rates, not sure. Thorsten Wahl or “delcyros” may have specific info on this.

Thanks for the answer!
I see, target designator might be a better name for it. In the report they suggest it should removed from the artillery command post, so was it a display of some sort? Showing target bearing?
From where would the data on the screen come? Did it show data that needed to be dialed into the computer, or did it show results from the computer?

Normally the target designator would be a periscope in the armoured conning tower so the CO would tell the fire control party which enemy ship to fire upon. The bearing of the selected target needs to be feeded to the director, so the director will be pointed in the appropriate bearing and the crew starts feeding ranges and bearings to the fire control computer.
The picture in the first post is "Artillerie-Schußwert-Rechner" but not a "Gegner-Geber" or "Foto-Tafel".
The "Foto-Tafel" was part of the "Foto-Anlage", which was necessary to rate the shooting by using cameras. The "Gegner-Geber" provided the different values for each shot. However, it seems the manual operation of the "Gegner-Geber" caused inaccuracys, therefore it was recommended to use the values of the "Artillerie-Schußwert-Rechner" directly.
