Re: Sunday, May 24th anniversay
Ciao all, so, reading above it looks like there is another official evidence about Bismarck being capable of 30,6 knots. Thanks Marc for the document reference I did not have. Bye Antonio :D I'm sorry, but in the absence of clarifying info, such as displacement, SHP and/or RPM this is hardly eviden...

I'm afraid, but I don't have the permission. It's from a comparison between Richelieu and Bismarck made by the construction office for Raeder.dunmunro wrote:can we see the rest of the document?Herr Nilsson wrote:Anlage zu K/K III A Nr. 231/41 g.Kdos from March, 13th 1941:

Re: Sunday, May 24th anniversay
I didn't want to disturb your discussion. However, the flooding into generator room, and the boiler rooms would have created a lot of trim down on the bow. If solidly flooded: E-Maschinen-Raum 4: 13 cm Kesselraum Bb 2: 36 cm By the way Luetjens stated 1 degree trim down on bow. So that's .49m...

Re: Sunday, May 24th anniversay
LOL. Yes, of course he is no reliable source. He tells the story from his point of view, but his book is just an adaptation of other books. I'm always wondering why he is such an object of worship. Yes, there was a trim by the bow and a list, but they weren't that big. Although I believe Bismarck wa...

Re: Sunday, May 24th anniversay
Assumed all tanks outside the torpedo bulkhead and all tanks near the torpedo bulkhead in the double bottom in compartments XIII/XIV were damaged and E-Maschinen-Raum 4 is solidly flooded, it's not enough to cause such a heavy list. Only a solid flooding of compartment XX/XXI up to the battery deck ...

Oops, I didn't see your 30.6 estimate, Antonio. My statement above refers to Harold's estimate.Herr Nilsson wrote:I can live with the result as a first estimate.

Re: Sunday, May 24th anniversay
@Antonio yes, of course, but it's always depending on the approach. That's why this battle always generates so much controversy. Someone could say i.e. that on the POW battle map Bismarck's speed is suggested with 28 knots. We tend to focus on the arguments which are supporting our own opinion and w...

Re: Oil Burners fitted on Bismarck
I would wager that the run that produced 150K SHP was done with "full throttle" and maximum possible fuel flow. Hard to say. It was the very first day Bismarck was clear to run flank speed. Therefore I personally believe they didn’t try to reach the limit. But who knows? The valves were o...

Re: Oil Burners fitted on Bismarck
No, I don't have any information about that, but I know they used the reference value of 8800 kcal/l for LHV in case of fuel consumption trials. The measured consumption of fuel had to be converted in official correspondence with the "Schiffsmaschinen-Inspektion" into a value corresponding...
