Antonio,
but didn't you say they were using canvas on the turret tops for this purpose during Lütjens inspection?

Hallo Antonio,
now you're confusing me. I thought they were using canvas on Prinz Eugen.

Re: Website 10th celebration - Bismarck May 18-21, 1941

While approaching Bergen, into KorsFjord they started painting OFF the ‘’Fliegersichtzeichen ‘’ ( Luftwaffe-KM air identification agreed colour ) but they did know the day after they needed it back while sailing away from Norway but still under the Luftwaffe air coverage range, just up until the 13...

Re: Website 10th celebration - Bismarck May 18-21, 1941

Your photo number one has the gun barrels of Caesar more light colored than my copy of this picture. Edit: I meant the difference between the lighter and darker part of the Caesar barrels on the brownish version of the photo. The black and white photo looks the same as mine. In my opinion the diffe...

Re: Website 10th celebration - Bismarck May 18-21, 1941

Hi Antonio, nice work. I hope I understood everything as you have meant it, because the ...-style is a little bit hard to read, at least to me. So here are my annotations: There is still my question, what the canvas are used for. Hiding the color seems to be unlikely, because the color of the gun ba...

Re: 2,000 tons of seawater in Bismarck's forecastle!

Kennedy, in his book Pursuit wrote: "The third and most serious hit had...penetrated two oil tanks, come out the starboard side without exploding. This hit not only let sea-water into the oil tanks and quantities of oil into the sea, but knocked out the suction valves, cut off from the engines a fu...

Re: Bismarck off Norwegian coast 21 May 1941

Ciao Antonio, regarding NH69730: As you know I'm always right. LOL. All kidding aside, I just ran over it and haven't taken a closer look. Back to turret tops: Why has a "Fliegersichtzeichen" to be colourfull at all? I see absolutely no need for that. (By the way there is an article of Mr. Gally wer...

Re: Bismarck off Norwegian coast 21 May 1941

Hi Antonio, I see no reason for scratching light grey from the list. Even the purpose of the canvas covering is not clear (at least to me). Maybe there is another possible reason for that. I don't know. Regarding the eye witness accounts: I agree. A lot of them are wrong, but a lot of them are right...

Re: Bismarck off Norwegian coast 21 May 1941

Paul, in case of Bismarck his memory is obviously wrong, but what about the yellow turret tops? He says "no" and we can't ignore this, I think. By the way, there are three additional letters, which are very, very interesting regarding the yellow-turret-top-issue: Jung-Letter Müllenheim-Rechberg-Lett...

Hallo Tommy, I was just wondering about the conning tower. It was never mentioned in the article. It's Antonio's article and I think he should answer. In the meantime here are his sources regarding the hits: Ref. a) AIR 14/415. RAF Report Z/201 “Sunderland” Flying Lieutenant R.J. Vaughn. b) Midshipm...

Re: Hood´s punishment at DS

There is also Antonio´s article in which is stated that Bismarck did hit the Hood in the conning tower killing 200 sailors. Two shells hit the Hood. A shell from the Bismarck hit the fire control tower killing most of the people in the tower. This left the Hood without central fire control....
