Re: Oil Burners fitted on Bismarck

I understand. I'm sorry, I don't know the exact type, but there are some data about the burner:

nominal 1,8 t/h fuel
max 2,13 t/h
min 0,35 t/h
nominal air flow 3000 cbm/h
nominal rpm 6000

Re: Sunday, May 24th anniversay

Group West calculated that Bismarck had already consumed 2610 t fuel up to May 24th 00:00 h. They assumed that there was about 5100 t fuel left

Re: Sunday, May 24th anniversay

Unfortunately not. Bismarck and Scharnhorst are getting more and more nose heavy exceeding full load. In case of Bismarck at maximum load the difference between bow and stern was 73 cm! So you are saying that Bismarck will become less efficient at full load? Yet you still maintain that 30+ knots wa...

Re: Sunday, May 24th anniversay

OK, let assume the figures are right. The displacement is (almost - depending on source) maximum load. So what happens to the trim?

Re: Sunday, May 24th anniversay

How reliable is the Scharnhorst Power curve? What's the original source? What do we know about the displacement? Is it stated in the original source or is it the opinion of the author?

Re: New book

No, I don't think so. The German edition is very new. It's pure idealism to write such a book, because in Germany there is absolutely no market. I don't believe it's so much better in other countries and I think a translation is not inexpensive. However, I've paged through it yesterday evening and i...

Re: Sunday, May 24th anniversay

Sorry, I had to edit my original post, to be sure what we are discussing about. Just for clarification: Where does this 43000 t come from? 43000t comes from the test data, of 29 knots at 138k SHP @ 265 RPM at 43k t: http://www.bismarck-class.dk/technicallayout/machinery/machinery.html OK and thank ...
