Re: Kaiser Wilhelm photo

Marcelo, the one source says 25th the other 24th, but I think June 1907 during the "Kieler Woche" should be a reasonably reliable information. On the other hand I'm unable to conclude whether he visited "Presidente Sarmiento" a second time. I just can say, that I haven't found anything about that. T...

Re: Kaiser Wilhelm photo

Hi all: Herr Nilsson: The phoho was taken in Kiel according to some sources, the article doesn´t say that the Kaiser came on board, but may be that is an omission.

Re: 2,000 tons of seawater in Bismarck's forecastle!

@dunmunro this is an extract from Bismarck's war diary: ........ OK, I understand, but this is part of the reconstructed KTB. It is a possible interpretation of the debriefing reports, which are also mutually contradictory. However, I still have the feeling we're talking at cross-purposes. I'm talki...

Re: 2,000 tons of seawater in Bismarck's forecastle!

The observed damage is the photos of Bismarck with her bow very low in the water after the DS battles. The signals were very brief and not meant to do more than convey the bare minimum of information. What if Bismarck is just pitching? There's also a picture with her bow out of the water. :? http:/...

Re: 2,000 tons of seawater in Bismarck's forecastle!

 What is the observed damage and flooding? There are so many versions that I don't know to which one you're referring.
On the other hand, don't you think that a good battleship commander should know the damage more than 3 hours after the end of a battle?

Re: 2,000 tons of seawater in Bismarck's forecastle!

Oh, I think they're very different: "...exploded on the starboard side, within the ship , at the level of the middle platform deck , making a hole in the ship's side 1 1/2 metres in diameter under water ..." "... exit starboard above the armoured deck ." This means at least above the upper platform ...

Re: Correction(s)

I made a few false statements in my last memo, which just goes to prove that it is always a good idea to check one's sources again before responding "on the fly". As might be expected, the best descriptions of the damage forward were provided by Bismarck survivors. The following quote is from "Germ...

Re: 2,000 tons of seawater in Bismarck's forecastle!

The electric plant No. 4 in the port side is approximately 9 x 7 x 3.5 meters. That gives a maximum enclosed volume of about 220 m³. To that figure add perhaps another 200 m³ for the wing fuel/void tanks and double bottom. Then we have to take into consideration the permeability of those spaces and...

Re: Website 10th celebration - Bismarck May 18-21, 1941

Hi Antonio, I'll be back on Sunday and then I'll watch my copy of the Prinz Eugen film once again. I think it's just fair that you should know that there is one document, which seems to confirm your theory. I think Olaf can obtain and translate it for you, because he is also member in that forum whe...

Re: Website 10th celebration - Bismarck May 18-21, 1941

Antonio, unfortunately I can't check the Prinz Eugen film, because I'm in holiday. I'm not sure, but as far as I remember there were also canvas on the turret tops approaching the Korsfjord. There is one scene (the one where they are covering the swastika??) in which it seems that little 'waves' are...

Hi Antonio,
there is something I do not understand: what makes you sure they didn't use canvas on Prinz Eugen in Norway!
