Naval Architect, Naval Engineer, Marine Engineer...

I'm confused here. :?
What is the difference between a Naval Architect and a Naval Engineer? The first designs ships' structures and the other ships' machinery, is that correct? ... and what about Marine Engineer and Chief Enginner?

I don't believe it was all Raeder's fault. IIRC, Hitler told him that there would be no war with England at least until 1945 and Raeder thought there was time to build a surface fleet. The Z-Plan was cancelled as soon as the UK and France declared war on Germany and further construction was focused ...

I'm not familiar with old gunnery but since they didn't care about armor at all it is my understanding that sailing ships could hardly be sunk by gunfire. Is that correct? Guns were useful to dismantle enemy ships that were later boarded and captured. How many ships were actually sunk by gunfire at ...

In a battle fought under the same conditions both sides I think anything could happen between an Iowa and a H-Class. The Iowa has nine 16 inch guns vs. eight 16 inch guns of the H-Class. An Iowa is 2-3 knots faster than an H-Class. I rate the armor more or less the same for both designs. Iowa has th...

The Iowa Class and the H-Class are contemporary designs from 1943, but 2 Iowas vs. 1 H-39 and the German ship is sunk without doubt. 1 Iowa vs. 1 H-39 and anything can happen.

There is no dispute to be resolved. Bismarck is firing to port in all photos. That's pretty clear.

Bismarck ammunition before last battle

Did the Bismarck have enough ammunition left to fight the last battle against Rodney and King George V? Both turrets Anton and Bruno went out of action early in the battle but has anyone considered that perhaps the Bismarck just run out of ammo and couldn't fire back anymore?

That FDR would allow an attack by Japan to justify going to war against Hitler defies logic, in my opinion. I agree. If Roosevelt wanted war with Germany right away he could have used better "excuse" such as an incident between a U-boat and a US Coast Guard Cutter in the Atlantic or somet...
