Operation Juno Fueling Question
In several accounts I've read, mention is made of fueling delays for the squadron which dragged on from late on June 6th, until late in the day on June 7th. Whitley specifically says until 17:50. I was rereading the Koop-Schmolke work which claims to reproduce extracts from the Commanders War Diary ...

Battle of Punta Stilo Question
Was Italian Admiral Campioni right to have Conte di Cavour not engage Warspite along Giulio Cesare, and instead have her wait for the approaching Malaya?
Safe to say most navies would have employed same doctrine?
Just curious on any thoughts out there.

Geirr Haarr's Next Work?
I have so enjoyed his works and was wondering if anyone on this forum may correspond with him.

Convoy HN 25 and the Bergen Invasion Force
This pretty damn particular but I thought I would take a shot. I've read in Geirr Haar's seminal works on the Norwegian Campaign that Convoy HN 25 of some 39 merchant ships left Bergen early on April 9th, and while I understand weather was atrocious, dark, no radar, etc, I wonder how the approaching...

Re: Best war movie ever?
Command Decision, 1948 staring Clark Gable, is not an action movie, but just a great study in the power and burden of leadership.

New Book on WWII Convoy Surface Battles?
I was on Amazon the other day and saw a new book coming out on German surface raiders in WWII.
I thought the title had something like “Convoy battles” or such in it, but like an idiot I didn’t move to my cart and save.
Just curious if any of this rings a bell with you all.
Vague I know…
Thanks!

Operation Berlin Question
In Richard Garrett’s Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, he writes that during Operation Berlin, while sinking five merchant ships on 2/22, “the Scharnhorst steamed off in pursuit of another tanker, which escaped”
I was wondering if anyone had a copy of her war diary which confirms this.

Re: Graf Spey V Renown
As the saying goes whenever there is a big upset in sports; That’s why the games are played. That said, hard to imagine Renown not winning out; just brings too much to the table. I’ve always been intrigued by the “what if” of Graf Spee and the Cumberland had the former engaged months earlier when he...

Re: KMS Admiral Hipper v HMS Berwick-25th Dec.1940
Some ships just seem to hit what they aim at, and I would put Hipper way, way up on that list.
In the worst conditions she was a one ship wrecking machine at Barents Sea.
Even the slaughter of SLS 64 seemed to be brutally efficient.
Every action she was in she did damage.

Re: KMS Admiral Hipper v HMS Berwick-25th Dec.1940
As a newer member to the forum, I love reading old threads, so much detailed information!
One thing I was curious about as I’ve seen no reference on, is what the Hipper reported that day.
Did she ever sight the Furious and/or Argus?
Was she aware that there were troopships?
Thanks!
