Leutnant zur See Willibald Volsing Info

Post by WoodyLedeboer »

Good Morning All,

I was wondering if any of you happen to know an approximate service record of a Leutnant zur See Willibald Volsing? He was a gunnery officer on board the Tirpitz during the September and November '44 attacks and his account features in certain books such as Gordon Thorburn's Bombers First and Last, and Patrick Bishop's Target Tirpitz. He also featured on UK Channel's four documentary about the Dambusters and that raid.

If anyone happened to know the following details, it would be most helpful.

Date of Birth
Date he joined the Tirpitz
What he did after the war.
Is he still alive?

I am carrying out research on the subject and would love to know more about him and possible places or sources where I could find this kind of information. I have approached the Deutsche Dienststelle in Berlin, but with no results yet.

Regards
