Your Favourite Warship of World War II

Post by miro777 »

Hey guys
I was wondering what the most favourite war ship is?
There has been polls and many have voted for the Bismarck.
I wonder why? Is it his faith? His strenth? His aura?
What makes the Bismarck so popular?
If it's not the Bismarck. Why is it the ship you choose?

thanx

(my favourite is the Bismarck)

There is a poll right here on Kbismarck. Just push the "view results" of previous polls.
Best regards.

To name one ship is very hard I have several.

USS Enterprise, CV-6. - Exceptional ship. Kept the US in the war in the Pacific for several months. Deserved a much better fate than being scraped.

IJN- Light cruiser Yahagi - Relatively small cruiser that sailed with the Yamato on the final sortie. Took an unbelievable pounding by US aircraft before sinking.

Prinz Eugene- Just a damn fine looking ship.

Repulse- Same as above. Very good looking ship, big guns and fast.

USS Alaska- Great combination of firepower, speed and good looks.

favorite WW2 ship(s)

Favorite KM ship? Scharnhorst.

British- Hood, and Tribal class DD's.

U.S.- Enterprise, for reasons already posted.
South Dakota- Good old Battleship X. You really have to visit Alabama or Massachussetts to appreciate their design.
Iowa- Grace, elegance, power, and plenty of outstanding American WW2 vintage craftsmanship to make a man's heart swell with patriotic pride. Plus, she was the only living (commissioned) BB that I'll ever get aboard.
Fletcher class DD's.
Japan- Nagato- An exceptional design for her time, and well crewed.
Kagero class- Great tin cans

Italy- Vittorio Veneto class. Some of the most beautiful steel warships ever built, and chronically under-rated.

France- La Fantasque. Radical engineering.
Richelieu- A really good design, and because Jean Bart was ugly.

Favourite ship out of all of WW2?

To be honest I have more of a liking for merchant rather than warships so some of the blockade runners such as Cortellazzeo would be in the running, but thinking about it I would probably go for Kormoran.

For regular warships I would probably go for Bismarck or Scharnhorst.

However I also think the S Boats looked pretty good.

USS O'Bannon a Fletcher Class. 17 battlestars and zero purple hearts. That's the ship that I'd want to be on.

USS ENTERPRISE, hands down wins overall.

German: SCHARNHORST

Japanese: SHOKAKU

Brit: HMS WARSPITE

Italian: well, none of them really distinguished themselves

French: see Italian

The La Fantasque class!!! They were not as sleek as some larger ships, but they had great hulls and sleek superstructure fronts.

There was a thread on them somewhere recently perhaps the axis history forum. They apparently saw some action in the med operating as a group under Free French control.

Looked it up here it is:

Here's a search that turned up a few more threads there:

It only goes back a year so there may be some older ones there.
