What Ship?

Post by Schweineferkel »

Hi

for all who have Google Earth.
What Ship is this
Place 39°53, 35 North ; 75°11, 16
I think it must be one of a Alaska Battlecruisers. But i read that both were scrapped.

If you go up the river you find another nice little ship

I think it's Des Moines, she's moored at the Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility (NISMF) in Philadelphia.

I think you are right about the ship's name. This is probably a 2004 photo (there is a way to figured out the date at digitalglobe.com.) She is looking forward to retirement ASAP as a museum ship, but will probably be scrapped soon. She is presently in a private Philadelphia shipyard. http://www.ussdesmoines.com/movement.html

Right, and across from the "USS New Jersey" there is the old "USS Olympia", one of my favorite ships: http://smmlonline.com/reference/walkabo ... ympia.html

Image Reference: see Google Earth

Probably CVN Eisenhower and George Washington; Google Earth Community gives two names for each carrier. The pictures may have been taken in 2002-2003. Most Google Earth photos are not very recent for obvious reasons.

It may be from this satellite pass?????
