Here are some in-progress pics of my 1/350 scale scratch-built DKM Scharnhorst. Framing of major main deck superstructure components is nearly complete.
Bulkheads and turret barbettes are made from .040 Evergreen styrene. The breakwaters are made from .020 Evergreen styrene. Stiffeners will be installed on the backside of the breakwaters. Lateral spacers are installed inside the middle deckhouse to ensure symetry. Longitudinal members are installed to support the deck that will be installed above to keep the deck from sagging.
The locations of other features not yet installed are marked out on the deck in pencil.
Drawings by Alan Raven and Thomas G. Webb contained in Battleships: Axis and Neutral Battleships in World War II, Naval Institute Press, Annapolis, 1985 have been a terrific help. I cannot recommend that book enough for anyone studying ships such as Bismarck, Yamato, Roma, and never-builts like the German H-36, H-41, etc.
