No one has mentioned "The Battle of the River Plate" a 1956 Movie. The movie is about the hunting of the Admiral Graf Spree. It's strongest point is how the German's are portrayed, they are humans not Nazi's. A US heavy Cruiser plays the Admiral Graf Spree and at least one of the British light cruisers in the film was actually in the battle in 1939.

I'm sure that this film has been mentioned in a great number of threads elsewhere if not here.

It is certainly a good film for the time it was made - it avoids being propagandistic but at the same time it isn't 100% accurate. Also note that the battle scenes and action are exclusively from the Allied viewpoint, to the extent that the seamen prisoners on AGS get more coverage than the German crew.

"Nautical-themed movies" -

"Moby Dick" was a great film, although not of a warlike theme.

Has anyone mentioned "Away All Boats"? Old, but another well done work.

Alfred Hitchcock's "Lifeboat" is a lot of fun.

I watch "Tora Tora Tora" at least once a year.

I was an extra for "Hunt for Red October". They filmed several scenes on my ship - USS Gary FFG-51. When the movie came out, I was so relieved they got certain things right. Knowing Hollywood, I really expected the subs to have Nautilus-style prows instead of Albacore hulls.

Although "Red October" & "Crimson Tide" have some Hollywood inaccuracies, I give them credit for really trying their best to do good modern naval adventures.

I wish they'd do a good movie about a modern destroyer. There hasn't been one since "The Bedford Incident".

I rather liked Sailor of the King when it came out years ago. If I recall it had Bernard Lee, Michael Rennie and Jeffery Hunter.
