F.W. Allen of the HMS Hood Asociation website located the wreck of the Prinz Eugen with Google Earth.
Those with it can locate the famous cruiser at the following coordinates (just copy them and then paste them in the coordinate box of GE):

8 45 09.58 167 40 59.22

There are other wrecks around, very near the beaches... It´s quite ghostly.

Best regards!

The following are coordinates for John Brown & Company shipyards in Scotland: where the Hood was built (just copy and paste), also a courtesy of F.W. Allen of the Hood website:

55 53 45.44 4 24 18.43

Enjoy it!

Thanks for the coords on the Prinz!

Maybe it's just me, but does anyone else get the eerie feeling like they're in a recon plane taking aerial photos just like in WW2 when they see the satellite photos of some of these other battleships?

Anyway, here are some other coords:

USS North Carolina - 34 14 11.25 77 57 16.24

USS Massachusetts - 41 42 24.51 71 09 46.91

USS Wisconsin - 36 50 54.20 76 17 44.66

USS Texas - 29 45 22.44 95 05 22.85

Will post more as I find them!

Some more:

USS Intrepid (lots to see here!) - 40 45 54.85 74 00 01.97

USS Hornet - 37 46 22.20 122 18 10.30

USS Lexington - 27 48 53.31 97 23 20.78

USS Yorktown - 32 47 25.12 79 54 28.69

I was going to list USS Midway, but Google Earth actually shows it in Oakland-Alameda and not San Diego! Old data, go figure!

In case you're wondering, I am trying to find non-U.S. ships as well! Especially ones like the Prinz. I thought it might be nice to start listing some of these site coordinates down so newcomers can see these ships wherever they may lie (if they are visible, of course). Unfortunately, wrecks such as those at Bikini Atoll don't seem to show up much on Google Earth. Any thoughts?

The Mikasa, the Aurora, the Huascar!!!

Taking a stab at the Huascar.... 36 42 19.61 S 73 06 41.61 W

There's no info points shown on Google Earth confirming this, but I found a website that lists it near Concepcion, Chile. I reviewed the on-site maps and images and found this ship which seems to be Huascar at its mooring (note how far away from shore it seems!)

Battleship Mikasa is at 35 17 06.56 N 139 40 26.98 E. Nearby you can also see the USS Kitty Hawk and some other interesting vessels!

The cruiser Aurora is at 59 57 19.67 N 30 20 16.38 E. It doesn't show too clearly on my map - could be due to my graphics card. However, there is a placemark there with some historical info.

Any others?

That´s the Huascar all right: see the turret? It´s just plain beautifull. And the place were it is moored has pristine clear waters!
Battleship Mikasa is at 35 17 06.56 N 139 40 26.98 E.
This one is also beautifull. One of the great historic warships still existing.
The cruiser Aurora is at 59 57 19.67 N 30 20 16.38 E. It doesn't show too clearly on my map - could be due to my graphics card.
Don´t worry, isn´t your graphics cards, the photos of the area are just horrible.

Awesome tool, the Google Earth, isn´t it?

Very best regards!

Glad I could help, Karl!

Yes, Google Earth is a pretty amazing tool! I wish I could get the maps updated or something, though.

I'm keeping a list of all the coords in this thread. If anyone has any to contribute, or would like to locate something, please feel free to reply to this thread.

55 53 45.44 4 24 18.43 (John Brown Shipyards) takes me to the middle of the North Sea!

The USS North Carolina co-odinates take me to the middle of the Himalyas!

40 45 54.85 74 00 01.97 USS Intrepid takes me to Northern India!

Are you sure these are correct?

I just cut & pasted into Google Earth.
