German Destroyers WWII by Whitley
Hi guys:
I am looking for this book but realized there are two editions. One printed in 1983/4 that contains 310 pages and the other in 1991/2 which has 224 pages. Is this info correct? Which is better?
Kind regards

Re: German Destroyers WWII by Whitley
Thanks Robert, I will be glad of you can scan the table of contents for me.
German Capital Ships seems to have more than one edition too:
Hardcover: 176 pages
Publisher: Weidenfeld Military (September 28, 1989)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0853689709
Paperback: 224 pages
Publisher: Cassell (June 30, 2001)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0304357073
Mine is 224 pages edition from Arms and Armour Press. In this case, the latter edition seems to be an expanded one, which is normal.
For the record, the editions I have found on Destroyers are:
Hardcover: 176 pages
Publisher: Naval Inst Pr (November 1985)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0870212176
Hardcover: 310 pages
Publisher: Naval Inst Pr (August 1984)
Language: English
Hardcover: 223 pages
Publisher: US Naval Institute Press; 2 Sub edition (January 1992)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1557503028
Hardcover: 310 pages
Publisher: Arms and Armour Press (1983)
ISBN-10: 0853682585
Kind regards

Re: German Destroyers WWII by Whitley
I have both books
The second edition book is 223 pages ISBN 1-55750-302-8. It is 25 cm x 25cm which is the same size as some of his other books. The first one, which I have packed away in a box some where is your normal book size.

Re: German Destroyers WWII by Whitley
Thank you very much for the info Jack. The second edition has larger pages so it is thinner, sounds logical. So I should buy the second one.

Unfortunately Marcelo I don't have a scan facility.
From the difference in page numbers I had inferred a difference in content, reading the above dialogue it appears to be a difference of page size rather than content?

I am going by memory, but I believe the second edition has more pictures and drawings than the first. I know at the time I received the second edition, I was very happy.

Thanks again guys, I ordered the second edition directy from Naval Institute Press. It may be usefull to the members to know that it is still available. Whitley has become one of my favorite naval authors, along with David Brown and Garzke & Dullin.
