The Corsair in the War Zone by Ralph Delahaye Paine is a recently added book on Project Gutenberg (https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/72760).
The Corsair was J.P. Morgan's yacht, offered for and accepted into naval service during World War I. The ship escorted convoys (mainly in the Bay of Biscay), fought submarines, and was nearly wrecked in a hurricane. An interesting book.

Seeadler had an auxiliary engine. This raider sank three steamships, two of them overhauled with the wind against her, using the engine.

The outline of the ship has some throwback element to the CSS Alabama and CSS Shenandoah, some 50 years earlier.....

It seems there was more than one Corsair taken into service. One for the Spanish-American war, and this one for First World War, both owned by Morgan.
Looking carefully at the pict, she does not seem to be a fast ship under sail, the masts look pretty short to extend much canvas, the booms do not look long either. I think she was mainly a motor sailer.

The image shown above appears to be the ship before the being turned over to the U.S. Navy. Images from 1898 show her without the forward mast. She had a vertical triple expansion engine capable of 2000 hp, and was rated in 1898 at 17 knots.
During the war, she was commanded by Richard Wainwright, formerly of the executive officer of the MAINE. Gloucester was active in the Battle of Santiago, and attacked the Spanish Torpedo Boat Destroyer FUROR in the battle and then went about rescuing Spanish sailors. She also took Spanish Admiral Cervera aboard following the battle.
