Help wanted!

The german destroyer Z12 Erich Giese, sunk in the battle of Narvik, Norway, 1940 is now leaking fuel. The propulsion system included Wagner geared turbines, and was probably fueled by naphtha from the german Fischer-Tropsch process. The observed fuel on the sea surface has a red/pink color, which is water-soluble. Does anyone know what causes this color - an additive or a dye?

Any information of this is highly appreciated!

Thanks tommy303! The document gives valuable information on fuel oils used by the German navy, and is certainly very interesting for investigation of future fuel oil leaks from German WW2 shipwrecks. The document didn´t give any clues on the pink/red color of the naphtha / diesel leak from Eric Giese, but I will investigate the HUGE library of documents to be found elsewhere on the website.
