KM 15.9 CM guns
KM 15.9 CM guns
Does anyone know of any source of information on the German 15.9 CM guns originally projected for the O classe battlecruisers specified in the Z Plan?

Re: KM 15.9 CM guns
I understand they were the same model as those mounted on Bismarck...

Re: KM 15.9 CM guns
The caliber was 15cm (5.9 inches).
I can not check this right now, but I think these guns were to be the same as those used on the Narvik Class destroyers.

Re: KM 15.9 CM guns
Whilst the 15 CM guns that were built under the Z Plan for various warships and were then used for the Narvik destroyers, confirmed as 5.87 inch calibre, my understanding was that the plans for the 3 O class battlecruisers did specify a gun calibre of 15.9 CM which correspond to a calibre of 6.26 inches.
I have no information on these 15.9 CM guns and I was enquiring whether there was any information available to the design specification and projected performance of these weapons - all internet searches have drawn a blank insofar that the references always go back to the standard 15 CM calibre.
Does anyone have any info or sources?

Re: KM 15.9 CM guns
Maybe it is just a mix-up between 15 cm and its imperial expression of 5.9 inch.
Re: KM 15.9 CM guns
Zestorer Z43 is listed in Wikipaedia as a Type 1936B class destroyer where it is stated that the original twin 15.9 CM turrets in the bow and stern were removed and replaced with 12.7 CM guns due to stability issues. Z43 was commissioned in March 1944 and the 15.9 CM turrets are identified as being constructed for the O class battlecruisers.
The Wikipaedia article confirms the 15.9 CM calibre as corresponding to 6.3 inch calibre so there appears to be no misprint over the 15.9 CM value.

Armament Kreuzer Typ P
secondaries remain of the same type.
in Addition ther is no 15,9 cm Gun in the Admirality manual for guns I'll save myself the gun list.
as the 28 cm turrets were not available the Kreuzer Typ P was transferred into Schlachtschiff Typ "O" May - July 1939secondaries remain of the same type.
