Hi All
HMS Conqueror, a 'Churchill' class Royal Navy nuclear submarine, sank the Argentine cruiser General Belgrano on 2nd May 1982. She fired a spread of three British Mk VIII torpedoes, hitting the cruiser with two of them. Can anyone tell me the distance she fired from please.

Sure, about 1400 yards, 56 seconds running time.

Thank you Marcelo Malara, that highlights how difficult it can be to hit something with a torpedo. With rough weather, possible target course and speed changing, torpedo reliability all adding to the mix, two out of three hits is got to be good, isn't it?

Of course, and the only reason three would be fired was to be fairly certain of two hits.
