I wasn't questioning the evidence given concerning the greater efficiency and capability of rail movement in comparison with road transportation, which also, as with rail, could be exposed to air attack.

I think the super gun Dora was used, for it's brief life, without any problem from the allies. But I'm not that sure of it.

Anzio Annie was a 28cm K5(e); it was known to it's German crew as Leopold.

Ok. The greatest guns ever mounted on rails and used in action were the Schwerer Gustav and the Dora. The Leopold (which is the one I made in 1:35) was a much smaller gun.

Gentlemen,
I know we are all supposed to be on metric nowadays, but for an oldie like me, what would the biggest gun be in inches?

That would depend on your definition of the weapon in question
The US built a mortar called Little David with a Bore of 36 inches, but I would consider Schwere Gustav the biggest gun ever with its 31 inch bore, and sheer SIZE!

There is also an atomic cannon somewhere. Early Cold War idea.

There are eight of the M65 atomic cannons left, which were based to a degree on the 28cm K5(e). I believe one is at Aberdeen and another, which I have seen, is at the Atomic Energy Museum in Albuquerque New Mexico. The others are at the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Watervliet Arsenal New York, Rock Island Arsenal Illinois, Junction City Kansas, and Virginia War Museum at Newport News VA.
