hey....
u all know about the French Surcouf class...
what if they improved and developed the sub even more...
so her hull would be resistend to shells and her guns would be improved to 11 in...
wouldnt that be a diving BB??

Some navies actually put a lot of thought into that kind of design.
The British subs with 12in guns were not armored.

If it can fight on the surface with large guns, why submerge?

This sort of weapon is unwieldy, difficult to mass produce as submarines in large numbers, which is why U-boats didn't have a mass array of deck guns beyond the AA artillery.

In fact in 1944 Donitz decided to do away with deck guns on U-boats altogether, except for AA gun defense. Only U-boats in the Indian Ocean/Far East kept their deck guns.
