H-44 The Queen of the sea?
H-44 The Queen of the sea?
What would happen if she met an Iowa? A Yamato?
No doubt the UK would be trying to get rid of her no matter the Cost. But the Germans would be protecting her no matter the cost.
If she (or He?) was christened the 'Fuhruer' (spelling?) then one would think that the entire luftwaffe would be in permanent orbit above.
How many RN ships could she realistically challange? Still only has 8 guns, be they massive. And no RDFC.
Has anyone elso seen the doctored picture of a H-44 next to a Tirpitz? This thing would have been massive! Twice the size and a bit of the Tirpitz.
Maybe just the worlds biggest most expensive target ship.
The mind boggles.

Re: H-44 The Queen of the sea?
H-44 was not a design for an actual ship. It was just a sketch to study design issues, similar to the Tillman battleships in America. H-44 could not have been Queen of the Sea because she could not have moved out to sea; coastal waterways were not deep enough.
Re: H-44 The Queen of the sea?
Tiournu this is hypothetical remember!!!!! Of course no port in Germany could tender a built H-44... deeeerrrrrrrr
But IF, yes IF, what would happen? A big bitch of a BB!!
Surely, versus any conteparary battleship there would be a big bout.

The British would attack it using their onoplastic shells which increase in mass while gaining velocity during flight. The 1938-lb shell reaches a mass of 17.3 metric tons at a range 54,000 yards, where its terminal guidance system provides a hit rate of 19% against cruiser-sized targets.

Re: H-44 The Queen of the sea?
Did those shells ever worked? Since that nowadays I don´t know if some kind of equivalent weapondry is under service of some military. If so, bye bye H-44 and anything afloat. But if not the Yamato´s are history (and the Iowas go down faster than Yamatos).
Personally I do believe that egocentric Hitler and no WWII then the Kriegmarine would have built it sometime at the end of 1940ies or the begining of the 1950ies. What a waste! Better a big bad fleet of Super U-Boats or Miro´s German CVs...
Best regards.

They sound pretty good, don't they? Give me a little time, and I'll come up with something even better. Some sort of focus lantern enhanced magnetism (FLEM) that follows the curvature of the earth and transforms the planet's natural magnetism into an eater of ferous metals. Oh, I like that one....Did those shells ever worked?

It´s like comparing the Remian Predator "Scimitar" (under Shinzon) against the BSG Galactica...

Excellent! And as we all know, HMS Hood was sunk by a Klingon ship.

Tiornu:
1. Small Birds of Prey that can cloak.
2. Bigger ones (equivalent to Enterprise in size) that are Battle Cruisers.
Anyway Scimitar is vastly a superior starship.... Thinking about it we can think of it as the H-44.
Best regards.
It´s not called "ship". Klingon vessels divide in two different classes:Excellent! And as we all know, HMS Hood was sunk by a Klingon ship.

Don't forget the gargantuan Battle Barges and Battleships from the Warhammer 40k universe. They are larger than the Excecutor from Star Wars an actually have firepower.
Re: H-44 The Queen of the sea?
Interesting that the Klingon's had battle cruisers and not battleships....
Incidently I think it unlikely that H-44 would have been called ''Der Fuhrer'' given the Fuhrer's fears over Deutschland being sunk and her renaming to Lutzow. One can imagine the gift to Allied propaganda of a ship named after Hitler being sunk....
