Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) system in finally ready for live tests with an actual aircraft. Hopefully the program will program won't suffer anymore big problems so it will be ready for CVN-78 ontime

Are you under the impression that EMALS has had more trouble than other newly developed systems? Is it behind schedule?

I was under the impression that is was behind schedule as well, but it seems maybe they go things back on track.

Presumably there is a set time scale somewhere - saying as it does in the article that ''failure is not an option'' implies that the time scale is subordinate to getting it right - so it could take theoretically for ever.

That seems unlikely since they are building the ship it will be installed in.
