.....what is the term "stricken " mean in regards to naval vessel.....in the one instance the battleship new jersey?

Maybe it refers to the fact that the ship is "strike out" of the Navy´s list of operational ships. At least that must be the case of New Jersey which is a musseum in Camden, NJ.
