They are not Russian politicians, they are US officials. Obama is introducing them to Medvedev.

That's the story? Also the CIA and LBJ were involved in the plot to kill Kennedy and in Area 51 there is an UFO. Just joking! I didn't got that part, but it would not surprise me that people lack of respect for the current President.

You didn't get that part because you always jump into conclusions and see what you want to see.Karl Heidenreich wrote:Just joking! I didn't got that part, but it would not surprise me that people lack of respect for the current President.

Jose,
You are right, you know? I know you are disatisfied with this discussion and that many people do not share the opinion that everything is right under the actual ruling parties in several key countries. I will not post here again until the November mid term elections or the next islamic attack against inocent bystanders.
Anyway I already promised Bgile that maybe this forum will be better without me for a while, no one will be pointing out that Bismarck was good designed battleship.
See all of you later.

1) I'm sure this is not the case.Karl Heidenreich wrote: ..., no one will be pointing out that Bismarck was good designed battleship.....
2) It's hardly necessary to anyone who has been here for any length of time or who is willing to go back through the various threads.

Re: Obama´s mosque
Perot was a major factor in Clinton's initial victory in 92, but not so much in 96. In 92 the splitting of the republican vote between Bush Sr. and Perot gave Clinton some key electoral districts in urban areas. It didn't matter as much in conservative and rural electoral districts such as Wyo. in which all of their electoral votes went to Bush Sr regardless of the Perot votes cast. Clinton would have lost the election in 92 if it was either just Bush or just Perot as his opponant.RF wrote:Clintons re-election was largely because Perot split the Republican vote. Do you think Perot would have beaten Clinton as a Republican nominee?Dave Saxton wrote: It would be like Dole vs Clinton in 96 all over again. I recall liberal professors lamenting that it looked like Bill Clinton would be a one termer, but the Republicans nominated Dole and assured Clinton's re-election.

Re: Obama´s mosque
This goes back to the critical issues at the foundations of the Republic, and as to why the United States of America is a federalist republic and not a pure domacracy. Two of the most critical issues were how to balance the power between large states and small states and between populous states and rural states in addition to the balance of power between the states and central Gov. Palin is a states rights advocate per the 10th Ammendment and is generally representive of the point of view espoused by most western conservatives.RF wrote: I don't think Palin is a credible candidate because she comes from the electorally smallest and geographically remotest state, and apparently believed at one time that Alaska would be better off as part of Canada than the USA.
I don't hold where Palin is from, or where she attended college, against her, but apparently (read eastern elite types) others do.

Oh RF (and anybody else) please don't take it that I'm accusing you of being an "eastern elitist" because of an opinion on Palin, or perhaps more correctly on a valid observation of how Palin is viewed by some or perhaps many Americans.

Re: Obama´s mosque
I don't hold those things against her, but what I do hold against her is as Colin Powell said "She lacks intellectual curiosity.". She doesn't seem to understand issues outside Alaska very well and doesn't seem to be very well read. In debates she appears to simply spout party slogans and seems to have little knowledge of the world as a whole. She supports some key conservative hot issues and she is young, pretty and inspirational. She is folksy. Kind of like Bush Jr. when he ran the first time.Dave Saxton wrote:Oh RF (and anybody else) please don't take it that I'm accusing you of being an "eastern elitist" because of an opinion on Palin, or perhaps more correctly on a valid observation of how Palin is viewed by some or perhaps many Americans.

Re: Obama´s mosque
Many of the same things could have been said about Obama and Mrs. Clinton too, but they were not castigated by the media.
A question is why didn't more women stand up for her against these unfair attacks? Maybe its that old adage; women can't stand other women who are better looking than them? There seems to be a little bit of that; if shes good looking she can't be very smart from the media too.
BTW, Although I think Palin has been treated badly, I don't necessarilly think shes the best alternative for the job as President. However, she was only running for VP and in my opinion she was more qualified than Obama who was not running for VP, but for President! The VP slot on the democratic ticket was that doofus Biden.

Re: Obama´s mosque
Obama and Clinton are obviously very well read, intelligent people. All you have to do is listen to them talk in a panel discussion or a debate to see the difference, but of course if you don't want to see the difference, you won't. They don't make fools of themselves when they talk about world events and they have real answers which obviously come from their own knowledge. Many times Palin will get asked a question she doesn't understand and instead of answering it she will just pronounce some slogan that has little to do with the question. It's happened again and again and she obviously just doesn't know very much about world events.Dave Saxton wrote:Many of the same things could have been said about Obama and Mrs. Clinton too, but they were not castigated by the media.

Re: Obama´s mosque
Do you mean when the President is on T-E-L-E-P-R-O-M-T-O-R or off T-E-L-E-P-R-O-M-T-O-R ? Quite frankly I found Bush Jr more articulate and knowlegable about a range of important issues when speaking off the cuff, than I have um....er...uh...hmmm...Obama. Obama hasn't demonstated an understanding of issues outside of urban Chicago, or a knowlege of the world as a whole that is not imbued by the idealology of his socialist mentors, which by his own (or Ayers?) writings he admits has long constituted the core of his reading.
I am very disapointed in H. Clinton as Secretary of State. So far she has as been about as nothing as SoS as a SoS could be. She hasn't demonstated an aptitude and understanding for the job even close to Condi Rice. But the USA, its Allies, and the world as a whole are facing severe defense and security problems, and we can't afford a nothing but a travel around the world spouting Dependancy Theory SoS.

I was referring to when they are on talk shows and there is no teleprompter. You obviously see what you want to see and there is no point in further discussion. I knew I should have stayed out of this thread entirely. It's name alone indicates the bias in this forum, which is typical of military fans. They see right wing politicians as favorable to more military spending, and they are generally correct. That is why the military votes for right wing candidates. When I was in the military, I was like that. That's typical of elite military units particularly, and professional military in general. Obviously there are noteable exceptions.
My son is a manager at Burger King. He doesn't have health care, and neither do most of his friends. He doesn't get any preventative health care. If he gets really sick or injured he goes to an ER and then ignores the dunning letters he gets for the forseeable future. He has no credit. I am retired and I and my wife have no dental insurance and no vision coverage. I worry all the time about one of us having some serious illness which cleans us out financially. Citizens of other first world countries in general don't have that concern. The USA has the highest infant mortality rate of any first world country, and that is because many young mothers can't afford prenatal care. It's disgraceful, but if you try to do anything about it you are a socialist and somehow an evil person. This country is controlled by the very rich, and they often manage to convince the electorate to vote against their best interests by scaring them with half truths and lately outright lies. They've even managed to get enough of their justices on the Supreme Court to make it possible for corporations to buy elections. It's not likely to change in the forseeable future, and will probably get worse. The top few percent of wealthy individuals make more money as a percent of the total than any such group since the days of the Robber Barons. It's in their interest to drive wages down to the level of third world countries, and they have pretty much managed to kill the labor unions. It goes on and on. I don't hold out much hope for the future, and I expect to end my days destitute, in a small room somewhere.
