Sensitive question

Post by phil gollin »

This may be a bit impolite, but I have not been able to log into the "other" Bismarck forum for several days :

http://www.bismarck-class.dk/forum/index.php

Does anyone know why ?

Thanks

Hacked again. Probably a more aggresive hack than the previous version. Don't know when it will be up again. At least I'm getting the forum format again, it was completely gone a few days ago, my guess is it's under repair.

Unfortunately it happened once before a year or two ago. Seems there are a lot of people out there with too much time on their hands and nothing better to do but make mischief. Pity.

Anyone know the facts? I am not a computer-literate person. What is hacking and its after effects? Whatever it is, it seems John Asmussen has been hit below the armor belt and he needs our help and support.

Hacking is somewhat analagous to breaking the inigma code. Pretty much some chap or chaps has to figure out how to bypass all the safety and security measures on a site, then go in and mess up posts, plant dubious files, etc. I am not sure how its done, not being that computer literate. I do wish there was a way to help, but most of that is well beyond me. I suppose i am a generation or two behind, dating back to mechanical calculators, analog computing systems, cuneiform and clay tablets, cave paintings (according to my daughter).

Not really, it's the electronic version of breaking and entry. Most of the time a few skilled people write tools to hack certain programs, and I suppose these programs exist for the phpBB boards as well. There's always some error in some program to exploit.

The effects vary, but in a worst case scenario somebody can log on as administrator on your PC and do pretty much anything. There are programs running all around the net randomly trying to access your computer and 'rattling the doorknob' (calling out to your PC), this is one of the reasons to have a firewall. These programs are not really a problem if you have some protection, but if some person with some skill decides to attack your PC it's nearly unstoppable.

Intelligent morons

Post by wadinga »

When I checked the Long Thread on radar, radio interception and Lutjen's long signal, all of Tommy 303's posts had been replaced with a pornographic picture. How or why somebody intelligent enough to do it should want to do it is beyond me.

Most curious. John said that it has happened with several other peoples posts as well it seems. I wonder why John's site has come under such a vicious attack. Any ideas?
