Segelschulschiffe
Hello, everybody.
I assume this could be a good place to post a request that have arosen from the little quest that I initiated today. I performed some searches for images of the German sailing ships and managed to find myself a couple of nice pics although one of the ships doesn't quite make the great difference in my image-collection. The Niobe is just about non-existent on the net. I found only two images...
Does anyone know of a site that present some more pictorial history of this ship? I suspect she's more of a rare ship to come by since she went down as early as in 1932 but still... Only two images? I can't think of anything more photogenic than a sailing ship.
Very best regards

A site of the greatest interest to all naval enthusiasts... (If I can get the URL functioning )
http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/WEB ... _1946.html
Incredible nice photos! Both the Gorch Fock and the Horst Wessel are simply extremely beautiful vessels. We have a similar beauty here in Bergen, also a Barque, named Statsraad Lemkuhl. Anyway, some general details of the ship and sources of litterature but much better is the downloadable links of an original 1937 logbook (Also a translated version) and also a Cruisebook from this year. (Scrap book)
A must for every Kriegsmarine enthusiast.
Very best regards

Photographs of the sailing ship Horst Wessel can be found on:

http://www.silentwall .com
http://www.answers.com
Best to find these by using the Google Images facility, by typing in Horst Wessel as the search object.

Thanks for the links, RF...
Although most images found trough these links were already known to me, I did find an image that was new and very, very much appreciated. (The launch of the Gorch Fock) I couldn't find any of the Segelschulschiffe in the ship-index of german-navy.de but I do have a growing interest in the artillerieschulschiffe and so forth the link proved useful anyway.
Albert Leo Schlageter, (Sagres) Gorch Fock I (Tovarisch) and Horst Wessel (Eagle) are all ships that can be found quite easily on the web but it is the Niobe that have my particular interest. She's a hard nut to crack...

Since there are links to Horst Wessel and Niobe here, why not add links for the others too? In case anyone should be interested...
Albert Leo Schlageter:

and the Gorch Fock:

To my great surprise, I found two more ships of interest. The Mircea and another one called Herbert Norkus.
Best regards

I have found this quite unknown photo of the Niobe in one of my books.
I could add some more pics of another sailingships, if you want to see them.

If they happen to be one of the ships mentioned above, I'm more than interested. I can imagine that images of the Herbert Norkus and the Mircea are really hard to come by.
But I think a confirmation from the boardmaster would be a good place to begin before posting images of sailing ships here. After all, this is a site dedicated to a different kind of ship(s).
Best regards
