New Winklareth book on Bismarck

Post by Byron Angel »

Go here - https://www.amazon.com/Battle-Denmark-S ... op?ie=UTF8

Received a decent and detailed review in the latest Mariner's Mirror (review is worth reading if you are a subscriber - much better than most Amazon "reviews").

Hi Dunmunro,

Good catch.

The reviewer (Professor Richard Harding of University of Westminster) identified the book as -
"The Battle of the Denmark Strait: a critical analysis of the 'Bismarck''s singular triumph"
by R J Winklareth
Casemate 2019
ISBN 9781612007137

... but then does describe it in the text of the review as a new paperback reprint of the author's 2012 work.

And what happened to the reversed photo theory...? Is it included?

Hi Marcelo,
I've not read Winklareth's book, but the reviewer does comment on the "reversed photo" matter as follows - "There is a comprehensive examination of the photographic evidence and the so-called 'reversed photo theory', which shows that many photographs of the action were wrongly printed."

I'm not exactly sure what the reviewer is saying here, i.e. - whether he is simply referring to the fact that the reversed photo issue is addressed by Winklareth in detail, or whether the he finds Winklareth's argument to have merit.

It was discussed at length right here years ago, even the author was member of this forum.
