Gents, as far as I know, but I understand that I can be mistaken, smoke generators uncommon on large ships (they were fitted on destroyers and sometimes cruisers). Hence, POW probably emitted funnel smoke. Can someone confirm whether it was chemical or funnel smoke ?

Thanks
On the German side, both Bismarck and Prinz Eugen were equipped with chemical smoke generators.

Not sure now , that you ask , about Prince of Wales. I have taken the thought out of Prinz Eugen's KTB, that has an entry written by Jasper: "[...] he [Prince of Wales] gave off black smoke and apparently used this to escape from view. In my opinion, this smoke was artificial black fog and did not emanate from a real conflagration".

Without confirmation from the British side, I don't know for sure.

.... As closing statements re the topic:

We have already provided on this forum all the data and figures needed to prove that PoW guns, with all their problems, were fired in an "excellent" way ......

.

Unfortunately you have not provided all the data - you are deliberately withholding the Vickers report and its archive reference (as required under the usage rules signed up to).

Fellow Contributors,

Strangely
In any case, the false story of the ship that was unable to fire in a decent way during the battle, forcing the engagement to be broken off (invented only in order to easily justify the debatable decision of her Captain), it's over by now. No denial can change this fact.
Has not been expunged along with other content, as being judged inflammatory.

All the best
