How Far Did Hood's Smoke Spread?

Something which may not have been fully discussed in relation to the Denmark Strait action is the question of just how far Hood's smoke extended from the wreck. Comparisons between Hood and Barham may point the way here, though of course taking account of the fact that a good quantitiy of oil would have been included in Barham's funeral shroud, making it appear much blacker and more clearly defined. Ambient temperature may also have influenced the height reached.

I personally think 1000 yards diameter is about right, whilst others may have reasons for thinking differently.
