Re: 38 cm shells
Found an amazing web site called Bismarck battle film analysis. An actual film of the battle that has been authenticated and would strongly recommend you guys look it up. It shows a number of things, namely Bismarck firing her forward turrets at intervals of 25 and 27.5 sec during the battle and th...

Re: The Climate Change agenda
I think the problem outlined in the previous post is becoming somewhat more muted in the UK, particulary as the ''Green'' vote isn't substantially rising and the ''Field Sports'' issue has now vanished completely. What is more of a problem are vested interest groups, particulary in academia and in ...

Re: About the Bodies
That's interesting, presumably that is why bones are found on shipwrecks that are a lot older but in shallower water?Bernd Willmer wrote:Hi,
bones (apatite) will be dissolved in the sea water, basically similar to calcite below the CCD (calcite compensation depth). Normally around 3500 to 5000m depth.
Bye,
Bernd.

Re: The Climate Change agenda
Gentlemen, I think the problem is that there are a reletivly small amount of people with mainly left wing or liberal views who make a lot of noise, be it on climate change, eating meat, field sports, weapons (particularly nuclear), or whatever. Unfortunately some members in Governments take too much...

Italian Battleships at Matapan
Gentlemen, We all know the rather devastating effect that the three QE's had on the Italian cruisers at Matapan. if, for instance, the opposition had been Littorio and Veneto caught with their trousers down instead of the cruisers would the end result have been the same, or would their armour be suf...

Re: HMS Howe speed
PoW's log also recorded speeds of 29.1 knots just prior to intercepting Bismarck, and I have posted the excepts on this board. We know about that Duncan. But what about Howe's 29.5 ? Whether 29.1 or 29.5 was achieved would surely depend on the conditions at that particular point in time, not only i...
Re: Zulu Time
Thanks chaps.
Zulu Time
Gentlemen,
Have often red in books or seen in films a reference to 'Zulu Time', I presume it has nothing to do with Rorkes Drift or the Zulu wars of the 1870's, so what does it refer to?

Re: Bismarck class turret protection
Indeed, and one might have to contend with high velocity spalls broken off the back of the plate even if the shell failed to penetrate. Thanks Tommy, Presumably the shock of the impact plus the exploding shell causes the spalls to fly around killing or wounding the turret crew, if this is the case ...

Re: Gun turret definitions (Yamato)
Gentlemen,
Is it true that the Yamato's had about 25" of armour on the face plate of their turrets, if so, surely this would be completely inpenetratable?

Re: Bismarck class turret protection
Gentlemen,
If one can imagine one's head in a bucket when someome hits it with a hammer - would not the concussion of a ton or more of shell hitting a turret have the same effect on those inside?

Re: POW Gets Her Turrets Working Again
Gentlemen, An interesting senario. If Pow had got all her guns fully fuctional after a few minutes I really cannot see a British battleship refusing to re-engage to have done so would almost certainly have ended in a court martial for her captain. Churchill wanted to do this even after knowing abou...

Re: Capture of the Santa Fe
HMS Antrim's Wessex HAS 3 (Humphrey), dropped two Mk 11 depth charges, the Santa Fe's ballast fuel tanks were damaged. HMS Brilliant's Lynx HAS2 arrived five minutes later and launched a Mk46 homimg torpedo which circled under the submirine, the Santa Fe could not submerge, as the torpedo would the...

Re: One shot = One kill
one shot one kill is possible for sniper guns. sniper is a good weapons for long distance shooting. you can kill the enemy is miles for one shoot one kill. True, I believe the record is around 2400 yards using a 338 Lapua round - but then, the target is not a battleship which is the subject of this...
