Modifications to Tirpitz

Has anyone compiled a list or schedule of the modifications/alterations made to Tirpitz arising from the experience with Bismarck?

"Please checkout the following reference:" I can't find any reference to implosion anywhere in that article. The use of the word ''implosion'' is mine in reference to the collapsed rudder as discussed in the article. There may be a difference in meaning here between ''US English'' and ind...

Veinticinco de Mayo was a British colossus class carrier. She was later the Dutch HNLMS Karel Doorman. After a fire damaged her engine room she was sold to Argentina and replaced the older ARA Independencia, 25 May is May revolution day in Argentina and a National Holiday IIRC. On May 25 1810 the S...

One aspect on this is that the Oskarberg guns only had blank shells to fire. Apparently Blucher was hit by two of these blanks, one on the foretop, the other on the engine room feed pipes. The heat from the inert shell ignited congealed oil, starting a small fire. This would have been inconsequental...

Re: French military victories?

I found this at Google when looking for "French Military Victories": http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/text/france.html It´s an obviuos hoax but a clever one. Is this a comedy site? Karl might be interested to know that France was not the first or only country to lose two succesive wars aga...

Re: Osprey - German Battlecruisers, 1914-1918

Against my better judgement, I recently bought another Osprey "New Vanguard" naval book from Squadron, sight unseen - "German Battlecruisers, 1914-1918" by Gary Staff and Tony Bryan. The authors also include some nice coverage of SMS Goeben, which often does not get the coverage...

Re: Battle of Midway new book

Has anyone read this: Jonathan Parshall - Shattered Sword: The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway? I haven´t. This guy, Jonathan Parshall is the one of Combined Fleet who regards Bismarck as one of the worst battleships in history  . But the critics say this book is simply outstanding, a re...

Lets leave out the old British BBs (Royal Oak, Revenge, etc) or would it have been an Italian BB or the French BCs? or the Japanese Yamato? which one? adios All of the above ships had an impact during their lifespan, not spe...

At least as far as the RN was concerned pets were quite acceptable (depending on Captain) - especially cats - and were quite often photographed. However, as an animal lover, why anyone would put a cat on a flower class corvette in the North Atlantic is beyond me. I know this is a silly question but...

Hi Miro, Dave is correct in his analysis, but I often wondered if it would not have been better for the Bismarck to steam at full speed to come under Luftwaffe protection as soon as possible and then request a tanker to be sent out to refuel her for the last stretch to Brest. Bob Refuelling from a ...

"However it did also happen to Prince of Wales." No, it didn't. The torpedo damage to PoW was far worse than that to Bismarck, but it didn't involve a jammed rudder. Nevertheless, your point stands that Bismarck's jammed rudder is not some huge indictment of a poor design. The unfortunate...

How far was it the practice to keep pets on board warships in wartime? I wouldn't have thought a fighting ship is really the right place for pets, you wouldn't take your pets with you to fight on the Western Front in WW1.... I notice that on the Prinz Eugen website that a number of Schnelleboot did ...
