Phalanx Cwis

I was reading up on the USS Stark and it gives mention to the Cwis not detecting the incoming exocets. Did a little looking on the net and couldnt find anything that suggested that system had actually proved itself in combat. Anyone know if the Phalanx has actually stopped an incoming missile in a c...

Re: USS South Dakota Electrical Faults

That won't help you very much. The report was whitewashed to cover up what had happened. You may look in vain for any reference to the sabotage. Is that your opinion or is that a proven fact? (Just asking) The report makes alot of sense. The way I read it is that as a result of certain switchgear o...

Re: Graf Zeppelin vs HMS Ark Royal and Victorious

How much doctrine is really needed? I mean if a german spotter plane eyes the British carrier, reports its location, then isnt it just a matter of the German planes being loaded and launched? Planes fly off, bomb said ship and return. Just because they didnt have any experience doesnt mean the Germa...

Re: RFC equipped Yamato vs. Iowa

Jaluz Skulki (Spelling????) Anantomy of Ship says something along those lines. Also claiming she sank a destroyer and a CVE for 102 18.1" rounds fired or something. In relation to Karl's post, Ive also heard Iowa's RDFC could actually teleport rounds directly into an enemy magazine.. destroying...

Re: RFC equipped Yamato vs. Iowa

But it´s important not to let this die or stop here. If this same situation would be about an Iowa then we will be reading a complete thread on how she hit a Japanese tug with her anchor while her crew was looking for geishas in Okinawa, being the hit proof of how remarkably well the RDFC works. Th...

USS South Dakota Electrical Faults

Just out of interest what are the opinions from you guys relating to the circuit breaker fault onboard SD? It seems it was regarded as foolish for the sparkies to tie down the breakers. But can anybody think of a viable alternative? Im an electrician by trade and can think of no real alternative. It...

Re: RFC equipped Yamato vs. Iowa

How do Germans who agree with Tiornu as far as Iowa vs Yamato is concerned fit into your point of view? If the destruction of enemy battleships is your only benchmark, Iowa has advantages her as well. She would have been much better at hunting and destroying German battleships in the Atlantic due t...

Re: RFC equipped Yamato vs. Iowa

One thing I have notice in conversation with American's is their tremdous patriotism and love for their country. This bleeds into love for anything and everything American. A genralisation yes, but fair. Americans themselves will tell you this. The old saying goes "He who wins the war writes th...

Re: RFC equipped Yamato vs. Iowa

Age in regards to damage control etc, not fire control. My opinion that the Yamato would have fared better is based on her superior optics to the Kirishima and of course her larger armor/armement. I would assume ranging could be conducted on muzzle flashes alone. The ranges, as I read it, were getti...

Re: RFC equipped Yamato vs. Iowa

Hang on a second. Yamato in place of Kirishima? If you fellas think that the the Yamato would not do better than the Kirishima then you have lost all credability with me (wow I know). K was just a battlecruiser and over 20 years old for jibba jab sake. In that stretch of water and at those ranges Ya...

Re: RFC equipped Yamato vs. Iowa

So why then is the Iowa's possession of RFC regarded as such an overwhelming force in the defeating of a larger and more heavily armed/armoured foe (Yamato)? I would have thought that in the case of the battleship, the biggest boat with the biggest guns wins. Also, I have seen it written that the Ya...

Re: RFC equipped Yamato vs. Iowa

So, in regards to the Yamato vs Iowa question it seems to me that the fact that Iowa was equiped with RFC she would have an advantage most likely to lead to a victory in a one on one duel? Is their any cases of an Iowa class BB using her RFC to the devasting effect suggested by the posts of many? In...

Re: RFC equipped Yamato vs. Iowa

In reading the posts within this, and other, topics one gets the idea that before RFC no ship ever hit anything. It must be the wording or something. All those writing in favor of RFC seem to be held to the fact that a ship lacking in it could not hit the broad side of a barn with a shot gun at 10 p...
