Re: Was US participation in WWII superfluous?
Some more informations The supply with lend-lease from October 1941 to June 1942 was decisive. The first Moscow Protocol was signed in highly embattled situation of the Red Army on 1.10.1941. The commitments of the Protocol for the period Oct 41 to June 1942, for 9 months (until the required connect...

Re: Was US participation in WWII superfluous?
That's a ridiculous. I can't see the British winning the Battle of the Atlantic, which all hinged upon, without US help. How successful would the Russians be without Lend Lease which was transported across oceanic trade routes? How would the Jagdwaffe be brought to heal without the US daytime bombe...

Re: Tribal class dd
The system wasn't able to keep up. 40mm guns are much less effected because there is a direct connection from the lightweight Mk 51 director (versus a 15 ton DCT with multiple stabilized sights to the 40mm mount. The 40mm mount is much lighter than a 5in turret so it has much less lag in the servo ...

Re: Graf Spee trying to escape back to Germany...
Just a few questions, what was the all up weight of AGS it surely must have been far more than 10,000 tons? The weight of AGS was 12370ts standard. Regarding AGS breaking off the fight, many years ago I heard a theory put forward that as she was a ship that had a reletivly light new all welded desi...

I don't see any AA capacity with an elevation of 40 degree.

Elevation ;Twin Mounting CPXIX: -10 / +40 degrees

That's the correct analyse.
The KM of the Weimarer Republic took without question the definitions of Washington for their own advantage.
But it is a very little advantage.

Re: Graf Spee trying to escape back to Germany...
Because of the Versaille treaty, Washington naval treaty and the anglo german naval treaty at 1935. The germans weren't allowed to the Washington naval treaty but were allowed to replace their old pre dreadnoughts, to the rules of the Versaille Treaty, which means 10000ts and no caliber rule. So wit...

Re: Graf Spee trying to escape back to Germany...
Perhaps you could tell us, if it was not full RPC or stabilization, what was it then? http://www.navweaps.com/index_tech/tech-013.htm http://www.navweaps.com/index_tech/tech-052.htm Also you should explain, why all german cruisers (PBB and Hippers) were shooting so much better in real battles then t...

Re: What if no Normandy landings at all
Sorry after my sources this is not correct. The SS 2 and 12 were absolut fresh and had required strength, the SS 9 and 10 had both a strenght of 17500 men at the began of D-Day, only 1 SS was groggy. The normal 2, 21, 116 and the Panzerlehr had all required strength and were fresh. My source is http...

Re: Bismarck 150mm fire control
Each plotting room had a separate Schusswertrechner or computer, one for the main battery and one for the secondary battery. This is correct, but also incorrect. Each computer was a C 38 (2 for every plotting room) and they were interchangeable for the main and/or secondary battery. Each C 38 could...

Re: What if no Normandy landings at all
Gentlemen, Still the forces concentrated in France were quite significant. In the entire Normandy campaign, no fewer than 400.000 German soldiers were lost to all causes. Over 500.000 troops retreated across the Rhine. That's almost 1 million men... My guess is that , with the western flank secured...

Re: What if no Normandy landings at all
Ah ok, Antwerp was inside Germany? Last shot with a A4 at March 27.1945. Read some sources about the impact of the A4 against Antwerp and the harbour and which problems the allied had for several month with the shooting of the A4, especially at Antwerp, which was the main target after London with 16...

Perhaps you should also read some sources! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggregat-4 http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggregat_4 Aggregat 4, A4 was the technical name of the V2! V2 was the name from Goebbels as Vergeltungswaffe 2 (repayment weapon 2)! It is totaly logic that a convential warhead had a pie...

Re: What if no Normandy landings at all
Ok for you it is ridiculous! Perhaps you should read some sources about chemical attacks and the impact on solldiers at WWI with artillery shells, which had bursting charges of 2-4 kg. The main chemical weapon at WWI was chloric gas. The A4 had a warhead of 750-1000kg and we are talking about nerve ...

Re: What if no Normandy landings at all
I imply that 20-30 A4's (V2) with 1000kg Sarin or Tabun warheads, which would explode 100m-200m above a city, would have near the same effect from dead people as an atomic bomb fom 1945. The destruction would be very much less, the effect to people near the same. An atomic bomb is a weapon of mass d...
