I would love to hear more about this, if you still have info. I realize that this is 2 years late...I did a bit of research on schnellboots, and still have interest for them!

Re: Voicepipes
I'm pretty sure that telephones were used mainly, but your right in the fact that were many voice tubes, mainly for talk between local areas I think, like the FC center and gunnery computer room?
Sorry, but I don't know alot about this, though would love to find out more. Anyone else have any info?

Re: Personal Library
I've read LUFTWAFFE SECRET PROJECTS and it's very interesting. I used to do alot of research on the Luftwaffe, and found that it was a very good book, especially for seeing the technological brilliance of some of those engineers! (who probably had guns to their heads toward the end...)

Re: Killing the Bismarck
obviously this book is VERY biased. Its war. Bismarck sunk Hood. Thats it. Its war. If you die in combat, its not murder. This seems more a propaganda piece then anything else.

I agree! Bismarck would probably have won that contest, though not without serious damage.dunmunro wrote:even with the rebuild Warspite did not have enough armour to slug it out with a modern battleship.

Re: The Greatest Naval Battle in History
though I guess it doesn't rank in fame as compared to Trafalgar and Jutland, The pursuit and sinking of Bismarck did have the entire home fleet and many escorts scrambled in haste to sink her.

Re: Kriegsmarine radars
Its obvious that the British had better radar. I'm no expert, but the radar used on surface vessels of the kriegsmarine doesn't seem to have been too reliable. Look at Bismarck. A single Salvo from her guns put her Radar out of action. Whats worse is that German radar most often could not be repaire...

Re: Searchlight Use
I'm no expert but I think it would be a lot harder to find the range for the guns onto a dark target at midnight. If there are searchlights on, you'd probably be able to guess where on the ship the light is and thus be able to aim more precisely. Maybe get the range through the brightness of the lig...

Re: How would you improve the Kriegsmarine
The Kriegsmarine should have completed their carrier force. The Graf Zepplin (did i spell that right...?) was near completion, but kept getting moved to different ports. The Kriegsamrine would have done a lot better with a carrier force.
