So there were 2 or 4 turbine rooms and 4 or 8 boiler rooms?

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?
My last post in this topic. It become boring. M.v. IS the single most important component in perforation... Sorry Maciej. Oh yes. So why there were any development of new shells? So British WWI shells were superior to German at Jutland. For sure. Kinetic energy will not lie. Maciej, 16x133 is worse ...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?
We are a bit off topic here, so taking some posts into new topis will be welcome, I think, but I add repeat here. ... If muzzle velocity is that stated on Navweapons, then the 16"/L45 MkII had the slowest m.v. of the ships enumerated - so it is impossible to have more penetrating power , at lea...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?
Electric power was used extensively on British ships build for export. But electricity was problematic in heavy seas. Electric equipment “don’t like to be showered by salt water” ( I’m thinking about 100+ years ago times, not modern equipment! ), so on won ships hydraulic power totally insensitive ...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?
But comparing KGV to Iowa is as fair as comparing Texas, or Arizona to Hood. Compare class to class designed more or less the same time and see what really happened. ... Compare then Lion with Iowa and with H-39 and see what you get. And I have Lions. Smallest of those 3 Strongest main battery ( la...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?
Added One thing British build 100+ heavy units ( including exports ) before Americans or Germans even start thinking about building ocean going battleships or armoured cruisers. And later build more than those two included. So who had most experience, and why all designs for sure were flawed, and Ge...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?
This isn't my idea, you know. The USN decided, presumably from testing, that they didn't want large engineering spaces running all the way across the ship, only divided by center line bulkheads. You obviously think they were wrong. I think reason was different. Simple simplification + weight + spac...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?
Yes. And Montana had numerous longitudinal bulkheads. So if those bulkheads were so bad and flawed, what we should think about that design?
Or those bulkheads in reality were not so bad?

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?
that's very interesting. More interesting what happend to other ships with similar hits. In short. North Carolina - if hit on left an 3 Uniths flooded + some compartments outside, just at the limit of sinking. If damaged right shaft, all 4 UNITS flooded = sunk. ( difference due to asymatrical place...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?
I added waves - 1.2 meter ( 4 feet ) high, and added flooding to left aft universal magasine. In previous sim I forget about that room. And changed display to show increased draft. Last position. Units: speed - knots, course - degrees, draft meters. So plus draft 2 meters means increased draft ~7 fe...

Re: Sinking of PoW & Repulse - Japanese animation
Only thing - I doubt any Japanese pilots dropped any bouquets in the aftermath! In some Polish monographs about PoW and Repulse there are repeated sentences about placing bouguets by Japan pilots in place of sunk battleships to honour mens died in those ships. With comment that it was start of the ...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?
Of course sinking after only first torpedo was possible. If there will be avfull damage control, more crew panicked and exit they station with no secure of watertight doors ( like 5.25" magazine crew ) and so one, there is possible progresive flooding. With such "help" from crew, sink...

And to all those concerned bout longitunal bulkheads and "sure capsizing" Not so. At last in this unit with adequate metacentric haight. Sinking all machienry spaces on one site ( and machinery spaces only ) makes list onl ~2-4 degrees. They are close to central bulkhead so mementum of for...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?
OK some results from simulation. Possibly some more rooms had to be flooded too. But program has own limitations, and some rooms are flooded too much. For example - room is flooded up to current water line ( wave, roll, pich included ), and its volume is calculated as "empty room" Clearly ...
