Re: The Plot

Hello Alberto, Mr Raven's (and John Roberts)'s British Battleships of WW II has a nice picture of this design of Bellini-Tosi M/F D/F diamond aerial on QE's mainmast in 1941 and his KG V plan (1941) shows it too (so no surprise on PoW), replaced in KGV 1944 plan by a tiny square forward of the bridg...

Re: The Plot

Dear Mr Raven, Please accept my apology for doubting your identity. Your point that the D/F references by both Leach and Wake-Walker refer to M/F D/F and not H/F is very significant. Also the revelation that Tovey's flagship had her own HF/DF system should be considered in another thread which might...

Re: The Plot

Hello Phil, Welcome to the wrangle. your own reference says An improved version of FH1 was introduced during July 1941 , identified as Outfit FH3 and installed in HM Destroyers GURKHA and LANCE2. These equipments all used the ‘aural-null’ method to establish the true bearing of signals but work was ...

Re: The Plot

Hello Antonio, Since you have both the Pinchin Plot and the "official Norfolk track" you can clarify So we cannot assume that the Norfolk track can be taken 100 % as it is, ... it was very likely modified to fit the needs and tell us whether they differ. :D Pinchin modified the Official tr...

Re: The Plot

Hello Antonio, It seems to me that this very important, short range, logged, timed reference reliably describes the relationship between PoW's track as drawn by Rowell and Norfolk's as drawn by Pinchin. There should be no need to move only "one part" of Norfolk's track, ie the bottom or the...

Re: The Plot

Hi Antonio, Back around late August it was revealed by Marc that PoW described being 1.5 miles astern of Norfolk at 06:34 and after some imaginative resistance (it's not a dot, it's a dash :D ) you supplied the usual tightly edited snippet from PoW's handwritten log and accepted this was correct. Po...

Re: The Plot

Hello Antonio, Firstly, genuinely well done on revealing a new piece of evidence, namely that Norfolk had and was using an HF/DF device. This is strong support for your arguments. However you go too far with why they plotted Suffolk at 13,5 sea miles on bearing 320° precisely at 05.41 ( and n...

Re: The Plot

Hi Antonio, 13. 0015 (B). Entered snowstorm; mean course 200°. Visibility until 0315 averaged one mile. Would you like to take a chance on running into Bismarck at 2,000 yds range? There is bravery, there is duty, and there is plain stupidity  Remember that 05.41 is the time Norfolk sent via ...

Re: The Plot

Hi Antonio,
I think that Norfolk was plotting Suffolk and the enemy positions only using the radio transmitted data sent by the Suffolk.
Eureka!

All the best

Re: The Plot

Hello Antonio, Indeed The 350° PoW to Suffolk is available also on another PoW map track ( see my Geometry_02). Seeing what is on the rest of Geometry_02 is of great interest to me. How about reproducing a larger sample? There are tracks drawn for vessels that PoW cannot see, and yet there th...

Re: The Plot

Hi All, Can we just clarify one or two things as we hurry to confirm geometries? Plan 4, published by the Admiralty in 1950, does not, in Marc's copy have the red annotations. Therefore only Professor Grove's book published in 2002 has the annotations. There is no suggestion that any mysterious Admi...

Re: The Plot

Hi Alberto, Why is Busch's report of an object so far away he can only identify it as a mast, but says is only 9 miles away, more trustworthy than Suffolk's report? :? 0520 (B). Enemy bore 203°, 15 miles, possibly increasing speed; and shortly afterwards altered course 30° to port and then back to s...

Re: The Plot

Hello Antonio, Thanks for clarifying the point about the annotations on Plan 4 in Dr Grove's book. I understand now that all copies of this 2002 published book will have this addition and presumably they are presented without any text explanation/justification. That would suggest it is Professor Gro...

Re: The Plot

Hi Antonio, Simply restating your convictions that everybody from Tovey down was guilty of a cover up serves no purpose. I have asked you for origins for bearings D6 and D7 inserted on the Plot and you can provide none, nor any idea where D1 to D5 are. They are on the “Plot” and whereas you contend ...

Re: The Plot

Hi All, Well, having spent some time on the Naughty Step after a touch of "Brain Fade" WRT Norfolk on 270T and Hood on 280T converging  I come back to discover that the pencilled alterations on Plan 4 are not official last minute modifications by the authors with Admiralty permission...
