Re: The loss of the Hood video
Also, one of the earlier shots shows Hood heeling in a sharp turn and since the rudder evidence from the wreck shows just such a turn was underway at the moment of her destruction, we may assume that heel submerged more of her starboard side, and put the lower edge of the belt deeper under the wate...

Re: Various Q's regarding fire control tools
The picture in the first post is "Artillerie-Schußwert-Rechner" but not a "Gegner-Geber" or "Foto-Tafel". The "Foto-Tafel" was part of the "Foto-Anlage", which was necessary to rate the shooting by using cameras. The "Gegner-Geber" provided the different values for each shot. However, it seems the m...

Re: Bismarcks anit-submarine/ mine
The rectangular transmitters are always open to sea.
Gneisenau's transmitters were protuded and embedded into more streamlined casings.
Bismarck's bow transmitters were installed into a horizontal recess of the bulbous bow similar to Tirpitz.

Re: Black objects in GrimstadFjord
Behind the doors are pretty big rooms (~3x4 m). Each of these rooms had a valve box with 4 couplings for 135 mm oil hoses. Refueling at port or in the roads by tankers alongside by using the valve boxes behind the doors. Refueling at sea usually by using the valve box at forecastle and being towed b...

Re: (No) Fuelling about in Grimstadfjord?
We have to distinguish between "Kampfgruppe" (~task force: Bismarck + Prinz Eugen) and "Verband" (~group: Bismarck + Prinz Eugen + destroyers). Raeder is talking about "Verband". According the orders only Prinz Eugen and the destroyers had to refuel near Bergen by the tanker "Wollin". It was never p...

Re: water line
Well, the November 1941 paint job instruction orders 1 m above and below CWL. CWL is 9.50 m. Obviously the waterline ends slightly above 10.5 m. It's just my speculation that the draught on construction displacement (9.522 m) could possibly explain the difference. In regard of the lower edge I would...
