Re: Somerville against the Rising Sun...
Given the state of training the Japanese had at that time I would think the RN would have been slaughtered. Churchill said as much.

Re: Royal Navy and HSF vs USN 1918
I would assume Britain would take the Panama canal right off the bat.

Re: Royal Navy and HSF vs USN 1918
That would depend if there had been a periode of growing tennsions or not. If there had been, say, just a year, then the threat from mines alone would probably kept the battle fleets from doing such bombardments. Any more time and there would probably be additional gun batteries and submarine to con...

Re: Royal Navy and HSF vs USN 1918
Good post LWD! I would assume the US Atlantic fleet would concentrate at Hampton Roads. It would probably stay there as a "fleet in being" much as the HSF actualy did and not come out except under favorable circumstances. Unless an east coast port were captured early on, the only viable fl...

Re: Royal Navy and HSF vs USN 1918
If it went more than a year or two, then US submarines would get some interesting experience.

Re: Best cruisers of WWII and the best use of cruisers
The first two US "treaty cruisers" were the only US heavy cruisers with two aft turrets (actualy, more properly "gun houses") but the ord was oddly arranged in that it had a triple superfiring over a double. Why was this done? I would think that it would be done the other way if ...

Re: The end of an Era - Ark Royal 5 & the Harrier
Dont be surprised if this is the end of carrier aviation in Britain. Capabilities that go away in the Royal Navy tend to stay lost. That seems to be the trend with British governments for the last 20 years. Very sad to see such a proud force being reduced to essentialy a coast guard.

Would LOVE for Clint Eastwood to do "Tora Tora Tora" in 2 parts. From each sides point of view. Or "Midway".
