That is true. Lets not forget that the RN also began 5 BBs with those CVs and started on anoth 3 of which only one was completed.

Not really sure what ur point is about the carrier construction in the mid to late 30s..........It would probably be worthwhile that during the times you mentioned the US was in a very isolationist mood, so getting funding for any sort of naval build up just wasnt in the cards. This "mood"...

I'm lost here........if Scharnhorst was so well built and apparently well protected against 15in shells, why is she sitting on the bottom of the ocean? I mean, if she wasnt vulnerable to Renown firing 15in projectiles, how was she harmed by the 14in ones from DoY?

I imaine he would have welcomed the Blucher in asia. I wonder if any thought had been given to sending a battlecruiser out there?

I would say that as far as armored cruisers go, the Blucher was probably the best of them all.

IMO she was a very good design for an armored cruiser, but their time had passed. She had the crew size and armor of a battlecruiser but not the speed or gun power. I would have to look up her commisioning dat, but maybe she should have been sent to the East Asia Squadron?

That should have been something of a wakeup call to the RN in general and the battlecruiser force in particular.

I believe GZ would need escorts (light cruisers perferably) if for nothing else than to act as plane guards.
