Don't be fooled about the Tiger
Don't be fooled about the Tiger. Tigers were able to kill almost any enemy tank in 1 or 2 shots at distances up to 1000 meters. Shermans needed to come much closer to do harm to a Tiger . Mostly they were only able to knock out Tigers from the side or rear. This happened in city fight or when ambus...

Re: Holland Shadows Bismarck Instead
This doesn't disprove that the Bismarck could do 30 knots though. Actually there are some documented evidence pertaining to the power, shaft RPM's, and the loading. During one documented speed run that has been uncovered to date, the Bismarck was producing about 117,400 HP, and turning the shafts a...

Re: Denmarck Straits Historical Facts
- PE could have fired torpedo's at 14.000 yards for 2 minutes, before turning away herself because of sighted enemy torpedo's. If she had used this opportunity, no one can tell what nasty things could have occurred to the PoW. The odds of torpedoes finding their target when fired at 14000 yds is al...

Re: Bismarck trapped
No reason to doubt that is situation would have been changing. 16 German guns, under excellent gunnery control and Carl Zeiss against a demoralised British ship It is hard to reply to posts like the above except to break them down into small pieces for discussion. The question raised is whether KM ...

Bismarck Speed
There's actually no evidence to indicate that Bismarck was faster than either Hood or PoW. Hood made 28.8 knots on trials in March 1941, with Paravanes streamed which was probably equal to about 29.3 knots without them, and I've produced PoW's log entry to show that she averaged 29 knots (and by def...

Fortunately historical questions tend to be settled by research, not opinion polls.Karl Heidenreich wrote:
So, there is no need to continue this further: many people also read, also understand and don´t let them get decieved.

Re: Bismarck trapped
To Karl, 11 versus 3 hits on a 2 against 2 ships basis, The RN ships fired about 90 (15" and 14") rounds and about 36 5.25" (IIRC) rounds and scored 3 hits. The KM ships fired about 250 (15 and 8") rounds and several hundred 15cm and 105cm rounds and scored 11 hits. Some of the ...

Re: Denmarck Straits Historical Facts
Vic and dunmuro seems to me a little confused, again. The fact that a hit goes on the bow doesn´t beam it was fired by a ship on front of it. Shells fly. In order to get things straight a very important document that is pertinent to this very discussion can be found here, at this same website. Anot...

Re: Denmarck Straits Historical Facts
6:04am PoW has only 1 out of 4 bow guns functioning. Both, bow and aft turrets failed. Only one gun in A turret was out of action. The other 5 guns were fully functional. One gun in Y turret was out of action. Y Turret shell ring was jammed which impaired loading, but may or may not have put the tu...

This "fact" has been reversed. There was only 3 hits by Bismarck on PoW.
7 on PoW (3 PE + 4 BS) the last of them when PoW was running away under smoke screen

Hood was shooting at PE, not Bismarck and PE was a much harder target to hit than Bismarck.Karl Heidenreich wrote: 1. Didn´t perfomed bad at all (as Hood that didn´t hit Bismarck a single time but her shooting was superb)

I assume that was the course being steered at the time the log entry was made.

Re: Bismarck trapped
PoW's log show that she averaged 28.4 knots from 0600 to 0700. I didn't know that Interesting .Is that log online? No but Frank Allan of the HMS Hood website provided me with this excerpt from PoWs log: "0500- Log: 295.2; Distance Run through the Water: 28 miles and 8 tenths; True Course: 240;...
