Re: The Plot

@Dunmunro Hi Duncan, even if I understand your embarrassment reading that Ellis confirms ALL the suspects we already had, please avoid terms like "insanity" as I never used the term gullibility speaking of your trust in the official reports....... If someone feels the need to justify the m...

Re: The Plot

@Dunmunro: Hi Duncan, you wrote: "an autobiography that was written years after the battle when Ellis's memory had failed him." This sounds like Tovey's "dementia" when recalling the Court Martial request...... you wrote: "Suffolk's track, with the 360d turn, was created by ...

Re: The Plot

Dunmunro: ".....then Suffolk did a 360d turn to open the range......... " Hi Duncan, I know this can be annoying, but NO mention at all of "mirage" effect nor "turn to north" in Ellis account......... I guess now the whole track of Suffolk (including Ellis offi...

Re: The Plot

@all: hello, I just received yesterday the Churchill Archives documentation re. Capt.Ellis, including his autobiography. Antonio Bonomi wrote: "....if I put together the 2 above declarations ... than I become very, very skeptical ...." No skepticism, my friend, things look very clear when ...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

Hi Francis, you are right and my "boxing" joke example wasn't fully correct. I think the reason why PoW was not hit anymore after 6:03 is related to BS sharp turn to starboard to avoid the (non-existing) torpedoes following PG alarm, therefore loosing her precision. So perhaps my "ref...

Re: Cape Matapan and Italian WWII fighting procedures

@Wadinga: Hi Sean, I just realized that was possibly wrong in the above post: I wrote: "Barham guns were trained to Pola only after the red signal was seen aboard the British ship" S.W.C. Pack (in his book "Night Action off Matapan") says that, after having received the first Val...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

@northcape: I have to respect your judgement even if I (and several people on this forum) have a very different opinion about Holland approach to the battle. Apparently we have a very different view of the sense of duty and honor for an officer, your approach to military aspects looks a bit too &quo...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi Duncan, I would say here (article 2 "Misconduct in presence of the enemy" paragraph 4) : Article2.4.jpg I fully agree with you regarding Hood protection, and it was Adm.Tovey responsibility the decision to send her against BS and to explicitly order to Holland to raise his flag on Hood....

Hi Sean, I can confirm you what I wrote re. Iachino decision: wrong but taken with the good intentions to rescue the Pola, requesting assistance. @Mr.Cag Hi, first of all, nice to meet you and welcome on board to this forum ! It's always a pleasure to have the opportunity to discuss with a knowledgeable person in a polite way. Of course, I do agree with you that the Articles of War could not be considered as the only guidance. However, when y...
