Re: The Climate Change agenda
Gentlemen, Re climate change, so many opinions- even the 'Experts' cannot agree, one says the earth is warming, others the earth is cooling so us poor mortals have no idea what is happening. I'm going to quote Clint Eastwood in one of his 'Dirty Harry' films when he said "Opinions are like a......

Re: should have the prinz eugen stayed with the bismarck ?
Agreed the extra AA might have made a difference at the start, but once Bismarck was crippled there is no way PE is going to be able to see off two battleships and a cruiser, The outcome would be that Messrs Ballard and Cameron would be investigating two wrecks instead of one. No, with PG close by ...

Re: Hood's sinking: the timing of that fatal hit
To Antonio; You are MUCH TOO KIND!! But I really appreciate your sentiments.... And to my namesake friend Paul: The double explosion idea has long been debunked - but unfortunately it has been perpetuated by the Channel 4 documentary of the first expedition to Hood - so every time someone wa...

Re: should have the prinz eugen stayed with the bismarck ?
[quote="Paul L Against the Hood and POW The two German ships straddle the Hood quickly and can it barely can get a shot off in return, while the reverse is true on the 27th . The British quickly straddle Bismarck and she can barely respond. Maybe having a second shooter -in that case -would hav...

Re: should have the prinz eugen stayed with the bismarck ?
Gentlemen, with regard to the original question 'Should PE stayed with Bismarck' i think the answer is a definite 'NO', if she had she would have been sunk along with Bismarck. Once Bismarck was crippled it was only a matter of time before the RN caught up with her and PE would not be able to do muc...

Re: Hood's sinking: the timing of that fatal hit
Paul, A very interesting analysis, although part of the bow and stern are reletivly intact it would appear from the expedition pictures that the vast majority of the ship is scattered over a very large area which has I believe prompted the idea that there was an almost simultaneous explosion of both...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War
Gentlemen, As usual all your points of view are very perceptive and always interesting as to what happened during those days, however, it does appear from some posts, not only on this particular thread but also others that some are getting very close to accusing the senior officers on PoW and Norfol...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War
Gentlemen, Just a thought, but if Norfolk had opened fire and forced Bismarck to turn her attention from PoW and reply, would that not have been a very dangerous thing for Norfolk to do? After all, cruisers do not normally engage battleships, especially one like Bismarck and given the accuracy of Bi...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War
But now that we have found the truth there is another problem that is clearly on the table according to this thread subject. They NOT ONLY covered Capt J. Leach, they covered also Rear-Adm F. Wake-Walker as it is very evident looking at first versus second Hood board of Inquiry making a comparison ...

Re: Yamato and Musashi vs. Missouri and Iowa
Gentlemen, We are considering two different sizes of ships here, a more interesting comparison would be two US 12x16" (Montana class?) against Yamoto and Musashi as they would be approximately the same weight and the 12 x16" per ship would be a better match against the two 9x 18" ship...

Japanese victory at Midway
Gentlemen, I'm not sure if this topic has been discussed before,The US victory at Midway has been described as the turning point in the Pacific war, but I wonder what the outcome would have been if the Japanese had won. For instance, would they have only dominated that part of the world until Americ...

Re: Battle of Flodden
Hi RF, Saw a piece on the battle on the television on its anniversary. The conclusion was that the Scots did not allow for boggy ground between them and the British forces which slowed down the famous (and feared) highland charge, but I wonder if the redesigned British bayonet tactics and discipline...

Re: Bismarck with 3 triple turrets
I have to say that a Bismarck with 9x15" would have been even more formidable! More formidable than a Montana -class battleship? :o Or, more formidable than the Bismarck , as it existed...? <<<(Please choose THIS option!) More formidable than the Bismarck as it existed, the Montanas wou...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War
In addition the use of all RN assets (Norfolk and Suffolk) could have helped in softening BS if well organized. Of course, to do so, you need to be willing to fight and ready to take serious risks the sentence you quote says that in my opinion Wake-Walker, after re-grouping, should have communicate...
