Re: Tiger Kills and Losses

lwd, i never said M-4s didnt kill tigers, just that face to face the standard M-4 had little chance, The fitting of the British 17 lb er ATG in to the sherman(firefly) was to give the allies a reliable weapon against panther and tiger tanks, MOST western allies tank guns at that time, June 44, didnt...

Re: Michael Wittman and Tiger tanks

Allied air power was one of the major factors in their fight with the Nazis, and how many fronts the German were fighting on, and a multitude of of other factors and mistakes the Germans made, and of course we cant forget Hitlers command of German forces, Having a nutter in charge, was in my humble ...

Re: Michael Wittman and Tiger tanks

hi lwd, please let me explain my comment on the tech of the panther and tiger tanks, ok BETTER GUN, BETTER ARMOUR, BETTER OPTICS. BIGGEST DOWN SIDE VERY UNRELIABLE ENGINES (WHY petrol and not diesel). ok my comment on the M-4 was not meant to say they were not good (workhorse) tanks in there own rig...

Re: Tiger Kills and Losses

to mkenny, How do you think ANY allied tank could go toe to toe with a tiger I, let alone a tiger II, What chance would you give a M-4 or even the firefly, how about the JS-1 or the T-34/85 or any other allied WWII tank/tank-hunters, say up against a tigers 88mm gun inside 2500m range, face to face, i...

Best cruisers of WWII and the best use of cruisers

OK , THE BEST CRUISERS AND THE BEST USE OF CRUISERS IN WWII, I'm interested in other peoples opinions on this subject, As i have said on other Posts in this forum, My father served on the HMAS AUSTRALIA II a British built county(kent sub-class) heavy cruiser. Re: Michael Wittman and Tiger tanks

hi everyone, As to the Tiger tank as one of the best tanks going around at that time, I dont think anyone would disagree that the Tiger(tiger 1 and the tiger 2,king tiger) was probably the technologically most advance tanks of WWII, but unreliable like the panther, both had very powerful guns(panthe...

Re: Germany's Weapons in WWII

hi bgile, sorry for the A-10 in there, but alot of people believe the A-10s idea came from the ju-87 stuka, as the ju-87 was adapted for the anti-tank role on the Russian front, And its success in that role(mounting 37mm guns on the wings) in destroying Soviet armour , led eventually to the developm...

Re: Bismarck Myths

Bgile i would agree with your comment about preaching to the choir, but change the GERMAN PART and add the AMERICANS to the list of the best of everything. I DONT THINK SO, just a couple of points here (and only my humble opinion) the best tanks of WWII would be..........the panther and tiger, both ...

Re: Bismarck Myths

In answer to healthycoffee, your statement on the USS New Jersey being able to take on Bismarck and Tirpitz at the same time, and sink both ships, sounds just a LITTLE bit like you've had just a little to much to smoke, I doubt that even the Iowa class ships would be able to achieve that feat.

Re: Bismarck Myths

My humble opinion on Bismarck, IS she was a legend built by her brave crew and the desperate efforts of the Royal navy went to find and sink her(and the sheer amount of damage she took). We armchair experts can say whatever we like about her in tech terms, many people claim Bismarck was a average to...

Re: Germany's Weapons in WWII

hi everyone, just a thought on the skyraiders, What a great multi-roled aircraft, in my humble opinion one of the best prop aircraft ever. Replaced by the terrifying A-10 warthog in the cas role. And the A-10 is a lot of NASTY in a aircraft.(nasty as in its capabilities and fire power). The 30mm ave...

Re: Th story of the Hood and the Bismarck is 'cool' and 'awe

people people people. And still after all the wars in human history WE (the human species) have not learned the most important lesson of all. WE ALL BLEED THE SAME COLOUR. I dont think anyone on these forums would glorify war. I would like to think most of the people on here would find johns work a ...
