Re: Scharnhorst Vs a KGV

I don't know, but the niveau of this forum is sinking rapid. It was not until he was in captivity that Strater learned from Able Seaman Birkle, another survivor, what had actually happened. Birkle was a member of the gun crew of B-turret. A-turret had received a severe hit – the second of the day – ...

Re: Intercepting Force H

@ dunmunro 1. What you have posted are the penetration datas of the 11"/52 gun of the Panzerschiffe. SH and GS had the 11"/54 gun with 330 kg shell weight and the L 4.4 shell. This is a very big difference. The 11"/54 is credited to penetrate after GDokus something about 11 inch at 20...

Re: Hoods armour

Mostly about Mr. Okuns claim about the elongation of Wotan hart of 18% and Thorstens shown primary sources, which prove more an elongation of 25%. Also other claims of Mr. Okun related to KM ships armour layout (space array armour layout) and Thorstens primary sources to this issue from Germany, Bri...

Re: Twins v Warspite & Valiant

@ paulcadogan So...this suggests that a 14-inch shell penetrated Scharhorst's magazines, and were it not for the quick action of the crew, (and maybe the stability of her propellant charges) it is conceivable that she might have gone up like Roma. Or is the survivor testimony to be dismissed because...

Re: Twins v Warspite & Valiant

It was indeed the conning tower not the the main belt with the slopes behind. There was also evidence of a further hit from Rodney blasting a hole through the main deck penetrating the horizontal armour Also I was confronted with this possible/claim hit in an other forum, which claimed that the shel...

Re: Twins v Warspite & Valiant

There are no real advantages for SH and GS except speed because Warspite and Valiant had all modernisations, especially they couldn't realy outrange Warspite and Valiant . To me it would make no sense for SH and GS to fight, because of their 11 inch guns, they must force the fight to a very short di...

Re: Michael Wittman and Tiger tanks

You clearly say the whole Brigade was held up and then end by saying it was a whole Division. Hell no! If the break through in the flank and back of the panzer lehr would be effective the whole brigade had stormed through the hole! Thats is what I mean! And 22nd Brigade is one unit of the 7nd tank ...

Re: Michael Wittman and Tiger tanks

Throughout the Normandy Campaign Monty was able to draw the German reserves into piecemeal battles and thus the Panzer Divisions were unable to be concentrated for the counter-attacks needed to defeat the Allies. This tactic worked and at no time were the Germans able to remove the panzers from the...

Re: Michael Wittman and Tiger tanks

Lol m kenny, what is your agenda? met and engaged lead elements of 2nd Pz.Division. And now? There were a few soldiers as "Vorrauscommando" and you will make a close compat unit of this? And if you are reading correct then you have read "the 22nd Armoured Brigade group "! What is...

Re: Michael Wittman and Tiger tanks

A valid question is are these independent sources? Certainly one shouldn't be very surprised if two wiki's contain pretty much the same info. In this case Carell's book may be a source for both. If that's the case then you only have a single reference. This can be correct for a few articles from Wi...

Re: Michael Wittman and Tiger tanks

Hey you are the one that tell us about "german myths". If you call the June 13 1944 and the Battle of Villers Bocage a british victory with the ambition to attack the panzer lehr in the flank and back then do it. I can live with this statement, the relative strength of the involved units ar...

Re: Michael Wittman and Tiger tanks

Incorrect. The dead for June 13th were 36. "217 men killed, wounded, and missing that day, a large proportion of whom were taken prisoner when the Germans cut off and captured the force on Point 213°. Ok i have count all. Later when the rest of SS 101 and elements of Lehr then attacked into th...

Re: Michael Wittman and Tiger tanks

I have a few questions. I know only the facts of my sources from the battle of Villers Bocage and the morning attack from Wittman. To my sources the 22nd Armoured Brigade group suffered all day long around 217 men killed, lost around of 27 tanks and a lot of armored vehicles. 11-12 Tanks goes to Wit...

Re: 15in Up Gunned Gneisenau v 1939 Modernized Renown

Defeating the belt doesn't matter because its the slope plus the belt is what that matters. I believe that not even Okun say that defeating the belt and slopes of German battleships together was possible at even point blank range, even for 16-inch guns? Two cents in this... I know this. It was only...

Re: 15in Up Gunned Gneisenau v 1939 Modernized Renown

A'ight, I speculate the following could do it: USN 16"/45 Marks 5 & 8 (Colorados); USN 16"/45 Mark 6 (North Carolinas, South Dakotas); US 16"/50 Mark 7 (Iowas). Then there's the Italian navy's 15/50cal on the Littorios. In the IJN... I'll guess the Nagato/Mutsu's 16.1" gun c...
