Hi Djoser:
As I progressed reading the book, I began to ask myself "how was it that the Admiralty didn´t kick this guy a__".
King regards

Re: Jutland recurrent themes
Hi Karl: Pollen was someone that saw a way to make money. He was constantly putting pressure on the Admiralty so they buy his system. The pressure went from going to the House of Commons to threaten the Admiralty of selling his system to other countries. The prices charged for his system were despro...

Re: Jutland recurrent themes
I have just finished Dreadnought gunnery and the battle of Jutland. I strongly recomend it, despite its outrageous price. I managed to get the soft cover edition, which is just around 30 bucks versus the hard cover´s 150. The author analyses the evolution of fire control in the RN from its beginings...

Re: Nelson V Nagato
I think that with 25 kt Nagato is in the limit of what can be considered an operative battleship by WWII standards. With 23 kt Nelson is badly old-fashioned. Nagato can sail along a cruisering carrier group, albeit at a high speed. Nelson would delay the whole fleet.

Re: Phalanx Cwis
Hi Bgile: Sorry if you misunderstood me, I have no problem with US equipment. In fact some of them are the best in their categories, the M-1 Garand rifle (best semiauto rifle of WWII), the Colt M-1911 pistol (best pistol for many many years, widely copied) and the B-29 bomber (best heavy bomber of W...

Her sister ship was truly unfortunate.
Hi Iwd:
Mutsu was lost due to an internal explosion, may be a remnant of the cordite troubles of WWI. What do you mean with "unfortunate"?

Re: Phalanx Cwis
"My opinion is that the US Navy wouldn't be buying thousands of them over the years and equipping every ship with them if they didn't work. " Well, the US Army bought thousands of M-16 rifles back in the 60´s and they were nowhere ready to combat. They bought the M-60 tank too and thanks G...

Re: Which Ship is This?
I think that the idea of exploding a torpedo under the hull is to break the longitudinal stringers of the bottom, which are more important to maintain the rigidity of the hull than those of the side. If they are damaged, the plates would start ripping off. Moreover, the deeper the hole the higher th...
