Re: Titanic Probabilities

I am not a Titanic devotee. What relationship in the timeline of events did: (a) the realization that the "unsinkable" ship was doomed versus (b) the announcement to passengers and crew to abandon ship?

Re: Titanic Probabilities

Hello John, Most of the forum members here are battleship-fixated warmongers (myself included) who typically disregard tedious matters such as the value of human lives - especially when it involves "merchant shipping" (one might invoke a trendy "smilie" here, but I really do not ...

Re: WW2 fighter aircraft wings

My brother told me of a conversation with a fellow pilot who was checked out to fly several warbirds. This pilot was currently flying an F8F Bearcat on his way to Oshkosh, but he told of test flying one of the few still flying BF109s compared to Spitfires. It was that pilot's opinion that the BF109...

Re: 'Superior' German & Japanese Optics & Rangefinders

"the battleship Littorio, while able to target the Caio Duilio with her rangefinders previously, this became impossible when the other battleship turned on her searchlights and blinded the Littorio. However, use of 'Zeiss-Septar' polarizing filters made it possible to target the other battlesh...

I look forward to any sort of intelligibly reasoned response to the uncertainties and logical inconsistencies pointed out by Wadinga.

Re: Kongo Class: Fast Battleship or Battlecruiser

The Evans & Peattie book, "Kaigun", (IIRC) made the argument that the pre-war intended tactical role for the re-built IJN battlecruisers was to act as a fast heavy support element to assist their light DD, CL and CA forces in breaking through USN cruiser screens to deliver massed night...

Re: WW2 fighter aircraft wings

Hi Paul, Taking a short break from the Battle of Denmark Strait ..... The leading edge slats of the BF109, from what I have read, did work. But they had certain peculiarities, one of which was described as "snatching" - a situation when, in a high G/high angle of attack situation, the slat...
