Losses Luftwaffe day fighters according to Christer Bergström: 16.100 (total loss = > 60% damage) with 8.500 pilots killed. Losses Night fighters and other aircraft (bombers, transports, ground-attackers and recce): Anybody knows??? :?: They (the Luftwaffe day fighter arm) claim 70.000 kills (25.000...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome

RF wrote Germany was a world leader in science and education, but with a very insular view that in part enabled the nazies to come to power. The whole problem of totalitarian ideology is its holistic nature, it runs contrary to science and true understanding, it is ultimately self-defeating. I think...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome

Agreed. But IF there will be need to military power again in the future.....the Germans will be there again!!!! They are born warriors as the Roman legions in 9 AD experienced to their dismay! Perhaps about 100 years from now there will be another World Order (dominated by the FAR EAST) with Germany...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome

to boredatwork: perhaps the energy flows to the things people believe in ...... the Germans didn't have real faith in their ships(how well they, in contrary to their mistrust, performed at Jutland), but more in their "land" Teutonic Knights...... the Tiger and Panther tanks. Strange enough...

mkenny wrote: One must ask why, with such superior ships, superior guns and superior sailors, the Germans did not fire just one of these super shells from each super gun on the super Battleship at each British ship. Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome

mkenny: I must admit there is some logic in your last remarks......but still the Germans have a marked superiority in making or producin g the top ranking fighter or tanker Aces. Even if they used the scores of top ranking Aces in debates to decide who was the true killer.... the top ranking Ace at ...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome

Dave, Thanks for your explanation. I always thought a pilot could be trained in less than a year, but that is totally untrue. In my opinion the Japanese had the same difficulties. The Luftwaffe however was initially a LARGE airforce with around 6000 planes and a well trained crew, when they entered ...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome

Karl, Like all the verbal duels over the Bismarck "they" are now trying to nullify the historic successses of the fighter Aces of the Luftwaffe. They (mkenny) also tried to nullify the outstanding scores of the Tiger tanks. But.........if an army put 2000 heavy tanks in the field with almo...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome

Karl, The Germans undoubtly delivered a whole score of the best fighter pilots of WWII, unchalenged and unparallelled by other nations. Why so many reached high scores? Perhaps being able to survive first against lesser abled enemies (Polish, French) and then being able to built up tactics and exper...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome

The Germans undoubtly realised that they were behind in training pilots thoroughly before sending them on a deadly mission.

Was the reason for not training them a the overall lack of fuel?????

(not shortage of men I suppose)

Then lack of fuel was the main reason Germany lost WWII.

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome

Bgile. no they could never have lost 1,5 million in the West.....think of 2 months Normandy, the pocket battle of Falaise and the near 68.000 KIA the Germans lost insofar (Allies insofar about 62.000). Then try to think what happened next.....there was a lul in the fighting during the pursuit to the...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome

Bgile: please do analyse the stats of DRK and VDK for the West (my list). It will show you that the Germans lost 780.000 soldiers KIA (all arms) fighting all other countries and armies except for the Soviets. In addition they lost 150.000 soldiers as POW (most by the Yugoslavs, then the French, then...

Re: Revisionist tendencies and Ambrose Sindrome

Bgile: I have written that total US KIA in Europe was 170.000 (only!!), and not all alone because of the Germans (but of course most were....). I think German losses against the US are of a similar order (perhaps slightly more beacuse of the constant air attacks and ever lasting artillery shelling w...
