Re: Bismarck Myths

Re: How would you improve the Kriegsmarine
The Allies systematically achieved an absolute air superiority about the Atlantic past 1940/41 and continuosly increase the density of air reconnaissance. Only border areas in the north are partly excluded from this. Under such circumstances any attempt of a sortie of non air protected and air assis...

Re: Bismarck vs. Iowa
In the other case we have a shell exploding next to an approx 4" bulkhead and another 1.5" bulkhead some distance behind it. It appears to me that there is a difference between these two cases. I question whether frags even get beyond the 4" bulkhead. Isn't that enough thickness to s...

What was the minimum thickness of plate to start the fuze of the british shell? in general the pentrated thickness for hit No 1 should be able to start fuze action, as it passes through 35 mm and 60 mm Wh as far as I can see; regardless from this, the beam of the ship was to low for a detonation wit...

Re: A 38cm shell from Tirpitz
front partial charges contain more wax to decrease impact sensitivity I think, but could be wrong, only in APC and base-fuzed HE. Nose-fuzed HE would have had a uniform composition throughout as there was no need to desensitize the forward TNT blocks, and since these were around the gaine, it would...
