Re: Clash of the Titans

As one might expect, Olivier played the role of Zeus in the earlier version.

Re: No return to the Moon

Thank you, Bgile. That was the basis for my statement, which was meant complimentary.

Re: No return to the Moon

Minoru, I generally find your comments to be thoughtful and interesting, especially considering that your cultural background provides me with an alternative perspective. Your post here expressed a valid opinion, but your first sentence does you no credit.

Re: 8-inch Heavy cruiser Longest Gunfire Hit

As an addendum to my note about Blucher, Geirr H. Haarr, in his new book, The German Invasion of Norway, reported that Blucher, upon leaving Swinemunde on Apr. 7, fired its main guns in practice for the first and only time, shooting one round from each gun.

Re: 8-inch Heavy cruiser Longest Gunfire Hit

The Hipper class did seem to have a good gunnery history. In addition to Hipper's successful shooting in more than one engagement, usually in difficult weather conditions, there was of course Prinz Eugen's hit on Hood early in the Denmark Strait battle. PG's shooting on land targets at the end of th...

Re: Prinz Eugen

That is consistent with my recollection. There was so little understanding, or perhaps recognition, of contamination. About 60% through the attached report, you will find a photo of the PG being swabbed by a crew after one or both of the tests. I am sure that you will find this report very interesti...

Re: Prinz Eugen

PG came through the first A-test in fairly good condition. It was only after the second test 3 weeks later that PG began to leak badly and was towed to Kwajalein to settle in shallow water. Oh, ok. I've shown my ignorance of the process. I didn't realize she went through two tests in quick successi...

Bgile, agreed! And I must admit that Sigourney Weaver's "armor" at the end of the Alien movie appropriately emphasized her strength of character!

Re: SMS Lutzow (1916)

Any thoughts why Caesar turret is further distant from Dora than is Bruno from Anton? The decking structure appears the same, yet the distance between the two superfiring sets is different.

Re: Waterloo movie

Yes, Zulu bears watching many times. Hearing the Zulu chants and war cries still foretells wonderful action not unlike the other movies referred to here, despite telling a tale of a set of smale scale battles. At least small-scale from the perspective of the few defenders of Rorke's Drift! Speaking ...
