Re: HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL
May 2023 usher in a return to sanity in our chaotic world. Byron We can wish it but sadly I can't see things happening at all. There seems little incentive to do so, if you take the Ukraine war as a yardstick there are no moves to end it, no prospect of negotiatons. The stalemate will drag on. As U...

Re: The B29 Superfortress
From reading this thread I would tend to get the impression that the B-29 was a complete failure, and I don't believe that was the case. Far from that Steve, but it was a novel and advanced machine that had its troubles, may be a consequence of rushing her into service. That was my impression as we...

Re: Was the battleship Bismarck really the best of its time?
I bet, that was spectacular, Steve. Concerning the Leopard 2 Thosten is correct. The gun only fires when it is on target, i.e. if it is not perfectly on target due to movement of the tank and the stabilization system can not cope with the movement, firing is delayed until the gun is on target again...

Re: Was the battleship Bismarck really the best of its time?
Hey Steve, I was on MBTs as well. Leopard 2. The aiming and stabilization was simmilar, but instead of having to realign your crosshairs on the target after lasing, the gun and turret would move for alignment. I find it spectacular, that in 1940 a fire control system for a battleship was compensati...

Re: Was the battleship Bismarck really the best of its time?
Maybe there was a misread/ remember on my side. What happens is you hold the crosshair on the target (even if moving) and lase it. That enters the range and target movement into the computer and the crosshair moves, applying lead and relative motion. The gunner moves the crosshair back on to the ta...

Re: Was the battleship Bismarck really the best of its time?
Redundant centralized remote power control (RPC) in azimuth and elevation of main batteries. not quite correct direct RPC was given "only" to elevation. the azimuth was not directly stabilised. BUUT the Azimuth of the firing solution was stabilised. In the main firing procedure the whole ...

I believe Iowa also had centralized rpc for her secondary battery. Not sur why you mentioned that for Tirpitz and not Iowa.

Re: What is Putin up to?
The damage some of these people can do is worse than in the past because they can achieve a much wider audience now. I thought of Alex Jones. Even though he is being punished for the horrible things he did to those people who lost loved ones, he just continues on and is rewarded for it. And there ar...

wadinga,
I can't bring myself to be too involved in this discussion and I'm glad you are here to contribute some sanity. I'm just not really up to it these days.
Thank you.

Hi Wadinga,
Do you want to seize control of Russia? I don't. No one I know of over here wants to own Russia. We would like to see them stop trying to gain control over the ex "republics" of the USSR.

Re: What is Putin up to?
Don't kid yourselves, gentlemen. Ukraine under the Zelensky/Kolomoisky regime has been an under-the-table stalking horse member of NATO since 2014. Byron And this is all organized by the "Deep State" or the Illuminati, or some such? The great secret cabal which controls everything? No,Ste...

Re: sabotage or carelessness?
I see Russian incompetence in their military, not in civilian operations. I suspect Moskva was lost due to malfunction of defensive weapon systems and/or poorly trained personnel. The only reasonable explanation I can come up with for the bridge explosion was a suicide truck bomb. Many years ago a t...

Re: What is Putin up to?
Gentlemen It was reported on the news the other day that Ukraine wanted to join NATO, that would really put 'The cat among the pigeons'! As for the so called 'referendum on the regions joining Russia' any referendum that produces results of over 90% (in one case 99%) has got to be a sham, if Putin ...
