Plan Z
knowing everything about what the Royal navy came out with during WWII ship wise and had during the war, If the Germans had completed their plan Z how much of a difference would it have made during the war?

Re: Hood v Vittorio Veneto
To me the Vittorio Veneto has a few things better than the Hood, it is more modern in almost every way the only thing the Hood has over the Vittorio is the crew seaman ship (knowing what to do and when to do it) and that is a big difference but this match up is still a toss up in my book whoever got...

Re: Battle of the Denmark Strait
I can certainly see the Germans taking more damage maybe even the Prinz Eugen sunk, maybe history would have been different if the Germans would have made a run back to Norway or Germany.

Re: Battle of the Denmark Strait
me to if for nothing else the Germans had more modern ships than what the British had in that battle and the Prince of Wales gunnery problems to.

Battle of the Denmark Strait
Supposing that the Germans are on the course the British had and the British were on the course of the Germans would the out come of the battle been different? sea conditions and German and British strengths are the same as the original battle.

Re: Hood v Vittorio Veneto
The British seemed to be better trained than the Italians they used their ships more effectively in the Med. sea the Italians had some beautiful ships just didn't seem to know how to use them, they should have had joint missions with the Luftwaffe or the Italian airforce so I would give the edge to ...

Re: Tirpitz sails on part of Rheinubung
Bismarck, Tirpitz, Prinz Eugen, and the Graf Zepplein (I think that's how you spell it) would have been a great Rheinubung especially if it was coordinated with the Luftwaffe and U boats.

Re: May 24 1941 - Tirpitz v Prince of Wales
Hmmmm! Sloppy shooting vs. mechanical problems.... Before mechanical problems become significant, damaging hits can be scored (as happened in PoW vs. Bismarck reality). So, Tirpitz starts taking hits and she then uses her superior speed to try to escape (unless she loses that to an underwater hit!)...

Re: May 24 1941 - Tirpitz v Prince of Wales
The secondaries, the 5.9 inch versus 5.25 inch, are unlikely to be of much use to either side in view of the armour plating. Neither would torpedoes be available. It comes down to a long slogging match, damage slowly building up as the action proceeds. Sloppy gunnery would indeed be preferable to g...

Re: May 24 1941 - Tirpitz v Prince of Wales
I would still pick the Tirpitz the secondary were a little bigger than the Prince of Wales I believe and sloppy shooting is better than the guns jamming in my book

Germans seize the French navy in 1940
Supposing they can do this and the British didn't shell the French in Port like they did I think the Germans have a better chance for success in invading England in 1940 -41 or some joint operations with the Italians against the British in the North Africa campaign against the British navy and their...

Re: Prinz Eugen stays with Bismarck
I think the Germans made the right move here separating these two ships, first the Prinz Eugen could only supply limited AA support, second the seas were so rough during the pursuit of the Bismarck I doubt the Prinz Eugen could have been in a position to tow the Bismarck the most it could have done ...

Re: Bismarck vs. Rodney: hand to hand?
If I remember right the Bismarck was built to draw off the British battle cruisers and battleships from the convoys, thus allowing the German cruisers pocket battleships, and battle cruisers to engage the British convoys. but keep in mind this is when all of plan Z was to be completed

Re: Beauty & the Beast
Interesting match up I think the German crew was better trained looking at all the sea battles Italy and Germany was in during WWII the Germans knew what to do with their ships more so than the Italians they just didn't have the numbers to hang with England, USA, Russia, Canada, ect. better training...

Re: Germans in WWII having Iowa class battleships
I think Raeder would be more aggressive with having more battleships available keeping them in the open sea and supplied would be a problem maybe some hit and run tactics in coordination with aircraft and subs would have evened things out
